This place is a scam. It’s unprofessional and I suggest that you go spend your money anywhere else. There’s so much to be said about this place. To start off it’s so unorganized. There is such a high turnover rate for the staff. I swear nobody knows what’s going on half the time and I noticed that they don’t get proper training like they advertise. Every new instructor that has come in is handed a book and literally thrown into the job the same day. I bet you could ask any employee there that they have no idea what they’re doing obviously they know how to do hair because they’ve done it in the past or that’s their current job, but they do not know the curriculum of the school. They constantly contradict themselves with what they teach us. That’s saying the employees they do currently have have been some of the best employees they’ve gotten. They try so hard to make the best out of a really messed up situation, but they’re only given so much. I also know that they pay men and women significantly differently for the same expertise, which is really weird to me. They also have people teaching classes that don’t do those services, maybe did school like 10 years ago. The staff even explain they don’t feel comfortable teaching because they haven’t done said service's. They prioritize money over the students and stuff half the building is run down. They make us pay for student kits and after we’ve received the kits I know from a personal experience and a few other students we received bad clippers and the school refused to replace them even though they made us buy them in the first place. we ended up having to buy our own clippers outside of our kit, we’re already paying a couple grand for the tools they require us to use. They lack a lot of respect for people in general. They have all these expectations and guidelines per their own guidelines and obviously the state, but they don’t follow through with their end of the guidelines. They advertise one on one learning and extra hours, but I can’t say that I have properly learned anything from them because they all contradict themselves and teach differently based off of the Milady standard textbook they go off of. Person a person if you’re looking to go to school here I would look anywhere else. It feels kind of like Monopoly because not very many schools offer financial aid or a lot of veterans don’t have any other choice. Also, they the pricing only includes very little products so they kind of scam everybody in that way of unless you have thin hair it’s not gonna be cheaper than going to a salon. And you lose the insurance of if they mess up your hair, I promise you they’re not gonna fix it unless you pay more. My learning experience was mostly through a textbook and YouTube videos because my teachers were too busy helping the people on the floor rather than teaching the class because they didn’t have enough staff. I submitted an ADA request to breast-feed before I even begun school and a couple days after I’ve gone school they let me know that it was denied. There are no specific laws for students that breast-feed in school so there was nothing legally I could do without getting a lawyer which I can’t afford because I’m in school and a full-time mom to three with a husband in the military. So I lost my milk supply and my ability to pump at school. They promise in their handbook that they will give you your transcripts within seven business days of graduating. I can confirm that that is BS I am waiting weeks now. I have so much more to say I just want you to know that you should spend your money literally anywhere else don’t waste your time coming here and energy because you deserve better...
Read moreI usually go to Aveda and I’ve had a great experience there every time both with my haircuts and the actual human interaction/experience. When I called to make the appointment, the lady on the phone was extremely nice and said that yes they did bleach hair even though I had box dye on my hair. She made it seem very easy and straightforward as in understanding exactly what I wanted and that yes it could be done. When I arrived, my stylist was kind and friendly but his teacher Beth was extremely rude. She followed us to the chair and she slumped into the chair behind us. When I showed them the picture of what I wanted, which was a more red, vibrant color than what I have now, the stylist was positive and saying that yes we can do that. But Beth said with attitude, that she didn’t understand what I wanted. She told the stylist to have me sit down so I did and then she said with attitude that I couldn’t have my jacket on the chair. I mean duh, but why couldn’t she say something when we passed the coat rack. For a good 15mins she kept talking to me in a condescending tone and then overcomplicating the process as if I didn’t know the process. I told her that I knew the process, that I had explained this on the phone and that the reception said it could be done. Beth was making it seem like it was a huge project that can’t be done. She made me really stressed out and uncomfortable. After repeating to her that I’ve never been here before and standing my ground, finally she stopped being so rude to me. Then she became helpful and nice but it wasn’t a good way to start my experience here. The other thing that was really stressful and uncomfortable was that my stylist was getting really technical with me about what kind of layers I wanted. I’m not a hair stylist so I have no idea what the terminology is. I was getting so stressed. Finally, Beth came over and showed him what to do and he went with it. After he was done, I asked again about the layers I wanted framing my face. This was the third or so time I had mentioned this. He did it and I’m glad but as he was doing it, Beth got rude again and said, “what? she wants you to keep cutting?” Ugh. Not how I wanted to experience a self care day. I’ll never come back here again and I’ll stay with aveda even though its an inconvenience to get to because I never want to feel this...
Read moreVets using GI bill to come here this is specific to you Been waiting for a while after graduating to drop my review of this school. You do not get the curriculum you pay for to come here whatsoever, such as Oregon law and career development. There is only one VA rep for all of the campuses, my benefits got paused mid contract and bah stopped. Drove two hours to speak to financial aid and was turned away about my VA benefits (staff was aware it was extremely important and I wasn’t getting emails back for months.) They were aware I was driving up to speak to them. financial aid is backed up. Also, count your money you receive for grants and loans and make sure you get every dime of it. Secondly, every day coming here there is a new rule. Be prepared to constantly have to deal with managers mood swings implementing new random rules. The morale of this place has gone way down over the past year, basically you make this organization money by paying thousands in tuition, doing services every day, to bring up your issues to staff such as missing tests submitted, lack of product in the building, people not receiving their kits they pay for at the beginning of the term, people receiving broken items in their kits, and not receiving the correct curriculum. By bringing these issues up to staff, the impression we get as students is that they do not care, they don’t have time to take care of it, and now we are the issue for addressing things we ourselves can’t fix. The instructors and management talk crap about the students a lot, which is another unprofessional issue. Lastly, in the handbook (since staff refer to everything about rules in the book) it says they have 7 days to send your transcripts to Salem. That is a lie. Don’t expect it anytime within 7 days after graduating. The guidelines and teaching you get for haircuts and color are mid and rushed. The owners of this organization do not care to show up that their business is having issues, and I don’t fully put the blame on the management at this current location. They need good assistance and teachers as a helping hand to help with paperwork and teaching. Basically, if you don’t have to come to this school, just don’t. Find somewhere that is worth the...
