Fred's is a great atmosphere with everything you need on Beech Mountain. They have Beech Mountain apparel, hardware, groceries and everything you need on mountain at affordable prices. My family has visited Fred's for decades.
You can also eat a tasty and affordable breakfast or lunch downstairs at the deli where the food is yummier than other poor options like White Wolf/Holy Smokes where food and service aren't as good. Be aware that Trisha at WWL fakes online positive reviews to offset legitimate reviews so don't trust HS food. Go to Fred's for breakfast/lunch instead.
Get your snowboards/ski rentals at Fred's downstairs (where they also have clothing) for affordable/quality equipment. Fred's rentals are better than places like White Wolf where equipment tends to heavily scratched/beat up, and bindings gets stuck constantly throughout day, ruining snowboarding experience. Management at White Wolf was rude, loses receipts and makes threatening calls to customers, falsely calling children thieves. Again, Trisha posts phony online reviews for WWL but got caught. How humiliating and untrustworthy for WWL staff. Go to Fred's to get your gear instead. Fred's is the One Stop Shop on Beech Mountain.
Shop at Fred's General Mercantile for virtually all your needs - souveniers, shirts/apparel, groceries, ski/snowboard rentals, and good breakfast/lunch at the...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about Fred's, we are in town for the week getting a much-needed vacation and we've been to Fred's twice in one day already, Bing from the city we were kind of excited about the concept of going to a general store but we're concerned about whether or not they would have everything we might need for our stay, they have absolutely everything you could possibly think of, and a very important note is that not only do they have everything you can think of they have brands that you will be familiar with as well, from baking goods to refrigerated items and even clothing as well as souvenirs all of the shelves are stocked with things that you would need and things that you didn't even realize that you probably forgot, and then there's an amazing Amazing Deli downstairs where I would highly recommend getting the club sandwich, we are also able to meet fried himself hose and Incredibly laid back and inviting individual I really made us feel welcomed on our first day, I'm pretty positive that we will make Banner Elk a regular stopping point for us throughout the year and most certainly Fred's will be part of our...
Read moreI've been debating leaving this review for a while, but, it's time.
Look, the place is stupid expensive. Most items are double what you'd pay at a grocery store. I kinda get it. It's a convenience location. It's either here, or drive another 20 minutes to get to the actual grocer. I've come to peace with that, and only really pop in occasionally for one or two items.
But I was in there a few months ago, and the guy behind the counter, his name is Fred, but not the owner Fred, asked me where I was coming in from. I told him the name of the street we live on, full time. He then replied with "good, if you would have said Florida, I would have come across the counter and stabbed you."
I just kinda stared at him as he laughed away.
I've been in there since, and most of the other people working there are super nice. But that guy is obnoxiously loud, arrogant, and rude. I've heard him say the same (or similar) to others, and just shake my head. Especially since Florida residents probably own half the homes up here, and make up a massive portion of the town's...
