Boston Ballet — Local services in Boston

We attended a matinee performance on Sunday with my daughter. We mistakenly thought it was an intermission as the curtains came down and many people were getting up and leaving. I took my daughter to the bathroom and only when we tried to get back in we found out it wasn’t a break and they wouldn’t let us back in. The staff was quite rude and not understanding of different situations (like the review above when family didn’t get back in time because there was a long bathroom line). Not to say they don’t follow the late arrival policy that is on Boston Ballet website citing “Once the curtain goes up, if you leave the theater, you will not be allowed to return to your ticketed seat for the remainder of the act. You may be seated in an available rear Orchestra or Balcony seat by an usher if it is not disruptive to other patrons.” The ushers told us we could not return to our seat by the time of intermission, not the remainder of the act. They also never offered an option of seating us in rear orchestra or balcony seats and despite our seats being right near the entrance to the opera hall and despite the fact we would not disrupt other patrons, they did not let us in. This is definitely against the policy that is listed on the website (also not easily to be found as the staff said, as it is not included in the ticketing part as other ballet companies do, but FAQ - which not everyone is anticipates) The staff is definitely not trying to be helpful and find ways to seat people back in and enjoy the performance, on contrary they seem to enjoy punishing people for not coming back on time or for coming a second later, even if it’s not their fault. The way the Boston Ballet staff enforces this rule is rude and unfriendly and there is no understanding nor flexibility in the way they enforce the policy. If you wish to keep this strict policy it would be nice to find better ways to inform the visitors as many of them are unaware (as most ballet companies are not so strict) - like before the performance starts so that they are all aware of it, as most visitors won’t be searching for FAQ on your website. Also please stick to the policy on your website and have people wait until remainder of the act not the intermission, and if it “as you say” doesn’t disrupt other patrons, try to seat people back in if it is the least possible as most visitors don’t pay a lot of money for their tickets just to be left watching ballet on TV. Definitely doesn’t create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere but...

Sunday matinee and they are way too strict about the bathroom breaks. Family with kids and when they need to go to the bathroom during intermission there is a line as usual at the women's bathroom so that you end up coming back late. The staff refuse to let you in if you are late. Multiple mothers with children sitting out with the staff waiting another 40 minutes for the next intermission. It's a Sunday Matinee, chill on the regulations. This is not a Friday night. We just left instead of waiting especially with the rude staff member with poor customer...
