This place is so good, they run out of certain types of donuts before noon. It's nuts.
Seriously, though, this place has some of the best donuts in the area. The texture is decadent and cake-like, almost like fresh Jamaican Festival (without the oil.) It blows chain donut shops out of the water, and it's because they have their donuts baked locally. It's a small property, so it's not quite on-site, but if you happen to catch them offloading their truck early in the morning, definitely wait around for opening.
The place is really pricey though - a $3.50 donut may be a bit more than you're willing to spend on your morning sugar dose, and it's entirely pointless to go for coffee in a specialty donut place (ESPECIALLY with Nero a block away.) It's best saved as a rare pastry treat. Or you might have a wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket - who am I to judge, I'm broke.
Two things I'll judge them for, and the reason I'm detracting a star. Their Boston Creme donuts, as is the standard for any good BC donut, are filled to the brim with creme custard. The issue arises from the fact that the custard is a good bit thinner and less viscous than one would expect, and biting/squeezing too hard on the center can cause... collateral damage. Additionally, their flavor-glazed donuts are a bit thin on the glaze, which is fine, because the donut itself is delicious, but would it really kill them to thicken the glaze layer a bit?
Overall, excellent little joint to...
Read moreAs I write this review, it is important to note that I am a diehard Dunkin Donuts guy, have been since 1976. My kids were tired of Dunkins' lackluster donuts and I saw this area when I first relocated to the area from the Seaport. I figured, why not give it a try?
I got a chocolate glazed for myself, hoping to recapture some of the joy of a well crafted chocolate donut when I was a kid. My daughter enjoys Boston Cream donuts, and my son will eat a piece of lumber, so long as it has cinnamon and sugar on it.
Seeing the prices, I wasn't daunted, because so often in life, you get what you pay for, right? Right?
No. The donuts were dry as sawdust, and lacking any real flavor. My quest for a good, solid donut continues, it is not here. If you had blindfolded me, I could not have told you what flavor my glazed chocolate donut was.
The presentation and look of the donuts was excellent. But the amount of good things I have to say about it, stops there, and stops short and fast.
Dunkins has better donuts, and they're not that...
Read moreI purchased 8 doughnuts Sunday. The average price:$3 and change and the pastries are more. They actually have added breakfast options [they do sell out], which is why I am only rating a 3. I also have not had their beverages. There was a high and low regarding my visit: I paid $6+ for the Cinnamon roll--I should have stuck with my initial thought. As beautiful as it is, I did not see significant cinnamon but thought it was hidden. This is the worst Cinnamon roll I have had besides Cinnabon. Whereas Cinnabon is too much, this is the polar opposite. This is a glorified Honey bun--which is one of the few treats I cannot stand. The bottom is buttery which is the only positive but I couldn't eat more than a 1/3 of it. The specks are either vanilla or CGI but I do not understand how one can neglect to make the Cinnamon the prominent variable in a cinnamon roll/bun. It is really disappointing to spend $6 and not receive what you paid for. The high was Sebastian, whom was friendly and informed...
