Believe every bad review that you read about being charged when you’re not supposed to be. I gave much more than a 30-day cancellation notice and they still kept charging after my last payment. I was promised a refund from a gym manager & employee, because I had written proof from a corporate customer rep who said I wouldn't be charged again (I had checked on this before the draft date), and then I was ghosted when I followed up about the refund. I had an EOS customer agent on the 3-way call with me (his suggestion) and he heard the gym employee tell me that the manager was issuing that quickly. I have texted proof from the employee too.
I've never written a negative review before, as I always just like to spread positive vibes for good companies, but this was such a frustrating experience and it feels awful to be ignored when I'm just trying to ask for what is right. I was also super kind to everyone I've been in contact with, so this stinks.
I also had some frustrating experiences with the closing of my membership and personal training. They lied and said that the New Year's promo sign-up fee was for the entire year and then I got charged a $65 fee the next month. I just let it go. They also signed me up for personal training assuring me that someone would have availability to train me before work, which is what I needed for my schedule, but I learned that this wasn't the case after I signed the dotted line.
My first trainer said I could have Fridays at 8:30 (cutting into work time, but I felt I had to take what I can get), and then changed her mind, leaving me with Mondays at 11:00 & Thursdays at 4:00. On my first Monday appt. day, she asked if she could reschedule so that she could have lunch with her boyfriend (who she had just spent a week vacationing with). I asked for a new trainer with more availability, but he also didn't have early appts, so I just combined my two weekly sessions into one (losing money that way) so that I didn't have to miss too much work. But I got overwhelmed with that because of all my meetings, so I just took the loss. Hundreds of dollars down the drain because the training manager didn't listen to my needs and just wanted the sale.
I'm an honest person and purposely cancelled my membership early to follow the rules, so this really shouldn't have happened. Even after all this, I’m worried they’re going to charge me again, as my online account shows another payment coming...
Read moreEoS deserves all the positive ratings they've received up to this point, the gym is beautiful, the staff is great - especially the kids care team, they keep the gym clean, it's 100x better than any other commercial/public gym in South Davis County (looking at you Vasa.)
However, with all those positive vibes has come what feels like thousands of people. This is easily the best gym for the money in a 15 mile radius, $10 a month for new, clean equipment, it's a steal.
But that 7 mile radius includes every neighborhood from Rose Park, to Glendale to Farmington and it's just right off the freeway so it's super convenient.
That's great, I love that everyone in Utah can enjoy awesome amenities, but there are consequences to a $10/mo gym loaded with features. Primarily crowds, and specifically crowds of people who aren't especially committed to their fitness but more the social component.
EoS reached it's enjoyable capacity about 6 months ago, I was hoping that after the new year things would die down, but it's just gotten worse and with school about to get out I can only imagine what it will be like during previously 'low tide.'
There are people everywhere, all the time.
It doesn't matter when you go, 5am, 9am, 12pm, 2pm - it doesn't matter. It used to be slower between 8am and 3pm but that's not the case anymore. High school kids, work from home warriors, it's busy all the time.
I wouldn't mind this so much if the people knew and used at least some gym etiquette - but they don't.
5-7 high school bros per bench 2-3 mommy bloggers with 5 sets of dumbbells' at a bench 2-3 CrossFit wannabes using a rack station as their personal mini gym for an hour or more.
You will have to wait for a machine or a free weight or a rack at least twice during your workout.
I give it 3 stars because I don't think EoS cares about the capacity issue, I don't think they see it as a problem - it's just more revenue for corporate and it makes the local gym staff look great on their revenue calls.
Props to all of them, it's a great gym that is super popular. But for people like me it's a 3 start experience now.
btw - if you go, plan on being in the background of someone's social media feed, it feels like it's encouraged to take pics and the privacy signs in the bathrooms are doing nothing to keep people from taking selfies with you in...
Read moreOk so hear me out, this is just my opinion and everyone that works out has their own preferences for what type of an atmosphere they thrive in. But I have never seen a gym culture anything like what you find at eos, like any eos,it's been the same. It is very meathead but minus the meat💪? Yesterday I had to avoid getting in shots of someone setting up a phone stand and recording at all their machines, not a fan.I may have conveniently had a lot of wedgies in those moments. Biggest EOS culture is nowhere else do I experience people literally standing over you waiting to use your machine next.Setting their stuff down at my feet mid set. One girl even helping herself to remove weights off a machine for me.Maybe I was doing a drop set?!? Am I going to feel motivated to do an extra set in that environment where Im being watched over?Absolutely not. Is it not more efficient to just continue your workout on a diff machine? I walk in with plan A,B C,D etc for the muscles I'm working so if a certain machine is taken,I know another few ways to hit it,or I just check back around! I don't rely on any ONE machine, you guys should try it! It also doesn't kill you to wipe your stuff down when you are done, also something EOS people don't do very often. Front desk people-super cool, you guys aren't cancelled, keep doing what you are doing. The sales people? Barf. Very pushy. Am I buying a car?Just let me sign up online, which actually had way better prices/deals then what was trying to be pushed in person. We aren't stupid? We did a walk through and then my husband signed up at home to avoid the sales people. We ONLY signed up out of desperation because of the childcare. I also have never seen a gym always crowded at any hour of any day. And even if its a 'slow' time, you will still get people standing over you watching you until you finish a set, regardless of how busy it is. Then those same people sit on their phone for a good amount of the time they are occupying a machine. I know this is lengthy, but it's what I would want to know going in just as a heads up...
