I love Macy’s as a brand, but today I had the worst customer service experience from an associate whose name I remember to be Barbara; blonde lady with a green sweater vest. I was finished using the fitting room in the dress department, with the dress and box of shoes I was planning to purchase in hand, and another pair of shoes I had tried and decided I didn’t want to keep. I placed the other dresses on the rack to be put back, but there wasn’t an area for shoes there, and they would be in the opposite direction of the department and the register I needed to visit next. Barbara was standing next to the service desk, ignoring me until I had to approach her; unlike the other ladies I’d passed throughout my time in the store, who had been helpful. I indicated to her about the extra shoes and instead of offering to help she tried to give me directions to go put the shoes back myself. Which begs the question, what is the point of having a system for the people working at Macy’s to help reshelf clothes people have tried on, only for the person being paid to do this job to try and get the customer to do it for them instead? I’m not expecting the red carpet to be rolled out for me or anything, but if that is part of their job, then why am I not getting the same customer service as everyone else? Walked into the store for my foundation and waited two minutes as I saw the employees busy. They all saw me wait yet no assistance. I walked around the corner and asked a lady to assist and she said she will get me to help. A few minutes later, every employee around the make-up division was avoiding my husband and me since no one knew anything about Estee Lauder. Eventually, a young employee was pushed to come to assist, as clueless as she was, I give her credit for trying. I asked her not to worry as I can see she is not from this department and she replied, yes as we are short staff and everyone is gone home.
It was really sad and very poor service, especially this festive season. The make-up division and a few other areas of the store were very untidy.
Also after being in the store for over 10minutes and spoke to three people with masks and none of them told us to put on a mask, a lady then comes to my husband and me and tells us to put on a mask which at the time we did not have. She advised us to get one from the desk. We then told her it's ok we are leaving. She followed us around the store until we left and made it seem like she is escorting us out. It was horrible. I found it strange that I am a woman of colour and other women of colour were fine with me not having a mask and yet she a white woman had to make a big issue out of...

We walked over to the fragrance and cosmetic section and there was only one person working in this whole section. As soon as we made eye contacts with her she rolled her eyes and looked the other way. My sister and I walked over to the Mac counter, she found exactly what she wanted. However I walked over to the employee and said excuse me we would like to purchase something, she simply said I can't help you unless you know exactly what you want. I responded I do know what we want, and she said well you're going to have to give me a few minutes. She wasn't even helping anybody at all. And As she was saying this she wasn't even looking at me. I found that extremely disrespectful, so I said never mind we don't want to bother you. And we left after that she never said anything else. I looked for a manager, yet there was only two other workers I saw. I asked one of them for the manager's name and he was reluctant and tried to tell me the manager wasn't there.
