I am really upset with my service today . Today 9/26/2025 the representative of the name Iqra who works in the jewelry department racially profile me etc . She gave me this funny look as I was approaching her register for assistance. I already assumed she was going to give me a hard time due to her facial expression and body language. when I got to her register, she Gave me this unpleasant stare that wasn’t friendly while I was standing there. And was fixing the jewelry. She asked me a couple minutes later if I need an assistance. I answered her yes.
I explained to her how my mom brought me a necklace two weeks ago And it broke. Due to me working and being in school, I didn’t have time With the 30 days To return it. But the receipt indicated that I can Request for an exchange. She was playing with the necklace examining it. And she asked me two times who gave me the necklace. And I told her my mom and ask her are you trying to accuse me Of stealing? She said no and obviously why does it matter who gave me it or not. I’m not requesting a refund I’m requesting an exchange. She said I’m just Following Policy.
I’m pretty sure the policy is not to racially profile black customers. And this is my first time experiencing this with ti maxx. She told me that I need the original receipt To perform the exchange. When clearly on the receipt, it indicate that I can do exchange without a receipt. You need a receipt to perform a refund. So I went and got the receipt and she said oh yes, there it goes in relief. And I grew confusion .She then ask me for an ID and I told her to do an exchange or store credit? I never had to provide a ID to exchange or anything . That’s against policy . I did different higher levels of asset protection for retail stores for over 5 years . Cashier are not supposed to do this . That method is when somebody stole and they have their information on file to proceed with charges etc.
So I asked her can I show her the one on my phone because I don’t feel like going back to my vehicle. You should’ve told me to bring my hard copy in because you were aware of me requesting for an exchange or store credit ,she said yes . Showed her and she said I need the back of your license to see the barcode. So at this point I requested a manager . She asked her and I assume the young Hispanic woman was a manager and she said no we don’t do that . So she proceeded on her register with doing the store credit because I didn’t find anything and at this point I was highly disappointed. She handed me the card to swipe for the balance to be on the card. I requested my old receipt along with my new one . It said customer signature and she didn’t tell me to sign and usually I sign when I do a return etc. And then she laughed with the young lady about the situation. So TJ maxx lost me as a customer and I will be contacting corporate Monday .
This is not ok and usually the other lady who is very nice don’t treat me like a thief due to my skin color and race . Not to sound materialistic but what I was wearing plus my jewelry surpasses the...
Read moreI visited the Bowie store in MD today to return a pair of gloves that I had purchased weeks ago. I lost the receipt so the manager, Allen S., must have felt the need to interrogate me. The manager also stated that “I looked like a thief” in front of a lot of other customers. A different sales associate found my receipt in the system and I completed the transaction and headed to the layaway. I then noticed that he followed me through the store and then stood with me in the layaway dept. I gave the lady my name to get my money back and Allen told me that he wasn’t giving it to me because he said had a video of me stealing a jacket. He then described a stubby, elderly woman in a wheelchair who clearly wasn’t me and stated that it could be me. I’m brown and in my thirties. So, do all Black people, young and old, light and brown look like alike to Allen? Do all Blacks look like thieves? Racism is alive in your Bowie, MD store. An employee stated he only treats Black customers as he treated me. I asked employees for the assistant manager name and information to contact a regional director and I was told that there have been several incidents stemming from Allen’s conduct reported to the regional director and nothing has been done. T.j. Maxx what are you waiting for? One incident is too many. Racism is not tolerable. Allen creates a hostile work environment for your other employees. You are very much accountable… Title VII. They see discrimination and how he treats your Black customers unequally to others and it goes unchecked. By the way your employees say the regional Director is a racist as well and that’s why Allen keeps his job. Also, the elderly lady in the video was my mother-in-law. The video showed her giving the credit card to the cashier, the cashier bagging the merchandise and handing her the merchandise and receipt, she then returned to the store to shop. She called in to correct the situation and the manager (Allen) called her a thief and threatened to call the police if she didn’t return and pay for the merchandise. I won’t be returning to your store. I do not support organizations that employ blatantly racist individuals. As for my mother-in-law, I imagine she will be contacting the corporate office as she is not on...
Read moreThis is my least favorite TJ Maxx in the DMV. I am a TJX rewards member and I shop at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeSense and HomeGoods stores from Annapolis, MD to Willamsburg, VA. I spend thousand of dollars per year with this company. The selection is scant, especially when it comes to beauty and this location is far behind their counterparts in terms of stocking trending items. Also, the manage here makes her own rules. She doesn't allow exchanges, rather she makes you return your items, then compete a new purchase. You can't apply credit for your returned items toward your new purchase. So if you need a dfferent size for several items, you better make sure you have the money to cover a new purchase. She claims it's the new "system" but no other store has this issue. Also, she pretends she can't take back certain returns that other stores don't bat an eye at. Even if an item is clearly unused or unworn, she will find a way to discourage you from returning it or pretend that the "system" won't allow her to return it. She is never friendly or courteous and honestly because of her I avoid this location as much as possible although it is...
