Brattleboro, Vermont — Local services in Brattleboro

This train takes me home, from one home to another one. What a gift to get to travle and look at the world. I wrote a poem about the train:

Their is a train called the Vermonter

It runs up and down the east cost from DC to... well Vermont

I could write page on page about each section of the trip

I could fill books about the section where you fly over NYC

where you are so close you can see right into peoples back yards and it feels like NY goes on forever

Or about the part I know best, the two hours from DC to Philly and back

The path I took until arriving in DC stopped feeling like coming home

and pulling to 30th st started to

I have so much to say about my furthest destination

How stop by stop the stations get less official until

when I depart in brattlebro

I am stepping out onto a gravel parking lot

no train station in sight

I image if you stay on to the end of the line

you don't even get that

When you are on an amtrak train for 7 hours you watch people come and go

you see who gets off where, when, and how

On the way south you can feel the change in NY

the train gets full here, packed to the gills

but also alive and awake

NY to Philly or DC is the best part of the trip

everyone is on their worst behavior

I wonder if the conductors take note of us, the ones who stay the whole time

from the almost very first stop to almost the very last

Sometimes I look to see if my friends (the other strangers who boarded at the same time as me) get off

I look at them and I wonder, what were you doing all the way up their? I wonder if they ask the same thing about me

I'm not even from the town I get off in

Brattlebro is simply the closest train station

Still an hour away

and hour and a half if you miss the one...

Scenic/historic downtown and visited there for the day by train. Plenty of interesting shops and restaurants and breweries to fill an afternoon.
