Scissors & Scotch — Local services in Brentwood

I was in need of a new place to get my haircuts and just googled "Barber." Scissors & Scotch was in the first 5 results and had the best reviews of the 5, so I figured "why not? Let's give it a shot." This is my new place, without a doubt. I was greeted immediately by a really cozy bar and seating area and was greeted by Eric. He offered me a drink, gave me a tour of the place, and personally handed me off to my new, favorite stylist - Hannah. She brought me over to her station, introduced herself, walked me through the process, and asked me what I wanted my hair to look like. We talked it over for a bit and then went to the wash station to wash my hair. Afterward, she brought me back to her station and got to work. She was fast, efficient, EXTREMELY personable, and gave me the best haircut I have ever gotten. I don't mean just in St. Louis, I mean anywhere I've ever been before - NYC, Connecticut, Florida, and Upstate New York. after my haircut, she brought me back to wash and conditioned my hair, while i enjoyed a warm towel on my face. Then we headed back to her ststion where she dried and styled my hair. Before putting any product in my hair, she asked what kind I like to use. I explained i don't like my hair to be stiff or sticky, but still hold, and she used the perfect product. I meant to snag some before i left, but im just going to grab it at my next cut. The pricing is fair but is on the higher side. I'm referencing in comparison to "pit stop places" ( I learned that phrase today, and it is 100% accurate) like GreatClips, SportClips, etc. In terms of charming, welcoming, and high-quality barbershops, this place is charging appropriately. They offer a membership program (NOT required to use their services), which, if you have faster-growing hair like me, saves you money if you're going every 4-5 weeks. I was dropping $40-$80, with tip, every 4 weeks for sub-par haircuts/services, and now it's $40-60 with tip. The membership includes discounts for other services and products in the shop, as well. It made sense for me personally to do the membership, but again, it's not required. In talking to my stylist, I learned that Scissors & Scotch treat their employees amazingly, and it's a safe and inclusive space. I've already got my next 2 appointments with Hannah scheduled. Finding stylists/barbers and dentists always seems to be one of those tricky things when you move to a new area. There are a ton of options, but it can take a while to find that right one that just meshes with your own tastes. You want that mixture of great service, price, and ease of access. I've been going to the same place to get my haircut for the last several years. Due to an unexpected emergency at the shop, I had to scramble to find a new place to get a haircut while under a deadline. I booked an appointment for Scissors & Scotch as it had great reviews online.

When you walk in the first thing you encounter is a bar. Scissors & Scotch has a bit of an unusual model that I didn't expect. They work on a subscription basis so it is closer to joining a gym then just being a regular at at barber/salon. Depending upon what level you join at increases the type of alcohol you have access to (e.g. basic = draft beers, higher levels = top shelf liquor). It is kind of a nice idea, and the vibe is one that is unique to shops I've been to. The haircut I got was pretty good and the stylist I got was personable. Overall all of the staff were very welcoming.

So given these positive things, why am I overall giving a relatively poor rating? Well, I had an appointment schedule and didn't actually get my haircut started until an hour after my booked time. I have kids and I was fitting in my haircut in on my way home from work. When I have an appointment, I need that to to actually happen. I don't have a lot of free time between work and family, so no matter now nice the trappings I don't want to sit there for an hour just spinning my wheels. I do need a beer on my way home from work, I need something that works with my busy schedule. The cost was also relatively high. It made me feel like I had to consume the include drink to remotely justify the price. That just didn't sit well with me at the end of the day.

I can see for some guys it being worth the money to join the program and drop $100+ monthly for a haircut. For me the cost wasn't worth it (I'm a pretty straightforward cut). Again, the thing that really gave me a negative impression was the wasting an...

First, I would like to say I am a HUGE fan of Scissors and Scotch in many places. I brag about how great Scissors and Scotch are, and I will travel far to get to one. I have been to Scissors and Scotch in Charlotte, Kansas City, Des Moines, and several other places. However, this Scissors and Scotch in Brentwood has completely failed.

I was passing through the area when I had seen there when I had seen that they had an open appointment in a few days. I was completely shocked that there was something available on short notice. Every Scissors and Scotch I have been to, I had to book weeks in advance. This probably should have been my first sign that something was wrong. I did book my appointment, found a hotel, and rescheduled my travel so that I could get my head shaved and beard sculpted.

The day before the appointment, I tried calling to make sure everything was good for my appointment, but no one answered the phone, and there was no voicemail setup. I went on with my day and when I woke up the next morning I checked my email and had received an email stating that they could not fulfill my appointment and they wanted to reschedule to Wednesday. I again called the number on the email and website, and of course, no one answered, and no voicemail was set up.

I packed my stuff from the hotel room and headed out as I had 10 hours to travel to get back home. I already was pushing the appointment because getting home at midnight was bad enough. They then sent an email saying they had me rescheduled at 2:30 today. This was way to late.

If I would have not shown up for my appointment they would have charged me anyway but of course this business won't care about the expenses that I accrued and lost because of them. How ironic that a business can treat customers this way. You inconvinence them they charge you but if they inconvinence you they don't care. This business does not know understand we are the customer and that they should want our business. The arrogance is...
