I now have a very good understanding now of why Amazon is eating the big department stores' lunch! It's their poor customer service and how they contradict their own return policy!
Around Christmas time last year, I bought some expensive Aqua Di Geo perfume for men (I paid about $120.00 for the perfume set). About 2.5 months into it, the perfume started leaking out of the the collar of the 'travel size' bottle -- which I never used.
So, I took it back to the Dillard Department store in Boulder, CO to get it exchanged (I took my receipt and proof of purchase sticker and the box with me). The ordeal I had to endure to get it exchanged was atrocious! There was this Arab lady at the men's perfume counter, and she had the absolute worst customer service attitude! She made me feel like I was there to cheat them! She kept interrupting me and whenever I tried to talk to her, she kept running away. There were several associates around the counter that were also embarrassed by her behavior! (Must be a cultural thing?)
I finally had to have them call her manager, she came to the counter and took care of it. She too had somewhat of cold attitude but she did redress tbe issue to my satisfaction. However, the Arab lady just couldn't let it go! I finally had to politely point out to her about her terrible attitude and how she is starting to annoy me!
I make a point to go to the local stores to support the local community and the local economy. I have this attitude of paying a few bucks more to brick and mortar stores because I also believe in the personal experience as well as interacting with human beings. However, when I left Dillards, I walked out bitter, disappointed, and sad. I didn't have that great experience I was looking for!
So, now I'm wondering what the point is in going to a brick and mortar stores when people like that woman at the perfume counter leaves you with such a terrible feeling and experience!? It is people like her that are ruining brick and mortar stores!
After this experience, I've decided to make 90% of my shopping on line from now on!!
Conclusion: Perfume: Go to Nordstrom or Macy's Shoes: Go to Nordstrom or Zappps (Dillards shoe department is bad also) Suits: Dillards suit department is good and I give them four stars!
Dillards Management -- I hope you are reading this and training your people before you become another 'dinosaur brand'!! Train your people so they won't have crappy attitudes! we consumers have a plethora...
Read moreAs somebody who has shopped at Dillard's for most of her life, I am sad to say, I will never be back after the atrocious customer service that I received today. My husband received a pair of corduroy pants for Christmas, and assuming that they would fit, took of the tags before he tried them on. After trying them on, he realized that they were too small. I haven't been to the store in awhile, and currently work in retail. I was pretty disappointed the moment we walked in the door from the condition that the store was in. I understand that it is the holiday season so things get a little disheveled, but this was out of control. There was trash and open candy bars left on different tables, and the clothes were very unorganized. We searched for about ten minutes for the right size with no luck. We finally decided we would try to return the pants and order the right size at customer service. After getting upstairs to customer service, we witnessed multiple customers get scolded by various staff members about why they couldn't return their items. I was appalled as I work for a company that is ALWAYS looking out for the customer. Dillard's employees acted as if they didn't care about the customer whatsoever. When we finally got to the front of the line, the man at customer service (Bobby Ray) was extremely rude. We brought all of the packaging with us (detached tags, receipt, bag that it came in), but as soon as he pulled the pants out and saw a few dog hairs (heaven forbid he tried on his pants in our apartment which is also home to an Australian Shepard), he told us that they couldn't be returned because they "are not in the same condition as when they left the store. I asked, "so if I take a lint roller to them and bring them back, will you take them?" He just looked at me blankly. My husband asked, "So what am I supposed to do with them? They don't fit." This Bobby Ray responded, "I don't know, but they're yours." I felt as though this guy was accusing my husband wearing the pants for an occasion, and returning them. This was not the case! After all, we wanted to exchange them for the right size! This kind of treatment by a retailer is INSANE and I have zero tolerance for it. I'll definitely be taking my business elsewhere from now on, and telling everybody that I know to...
Read moreI have had one terrible experience after another with arrogant, nasty staff members at Dillard's. I recently needed to make a return. I had made a Christmas purchase on line. My husband was hospitalized for 3 weeks, so I was not able to return the coat until it was past the 30 day return. I explained my situation. The manager didn't care at all. She said that she could see that I had made several purchases in the past, so I should not have a problem just getting in store credit. So, I explained to her that the coat that I was returning was identical to a coat that I purchased at Macy's. I purchased it at Macy's for $63.00 less. She became VERY SNOTTY and said that their products were always far superior to Macy's quality, (this is often true), and that therefore I was mistaken. Hmmm, same designer, same manufacturer, same material content, looks identical, even the exact same manufacturer and designer labels! I didn't want in store credit as I do not plan to shop at Dillard's again. Not only was this manager nasty, but they charged me for shipping when I had spent over $200.00. The manager explained that that was because my purchase had been on sale. I also had to make a return of a coat to Macy's. Same scenario, except I was returning it because it was an extra gift that I didn't need. The staff member was friendly. He made the return without question. I had purchased this coat on sale also. Macy's didn't charge me for shipping. As a matter of fact, I purchased coats on sale at Nordstrom's also. They didn't charge me for shipping either. In conclusion, I surmise that Macy's and Nordstrom's must treat their staff better than Dillard's since, Macy's and Nordstrom's staff are friendly and eager to help, whereas the assistant manager and manager that I worked with at Dillard's were unfriendly, arrogant and just plain nasty. I have run into this same attitude in the men's department for years. When I spend money somewhere, I expect to be treated with respect. I left this experience at Dillard's in tears. I don't think that I will be purchasing...
