Having grown up using the YMCA and Schroeder facilities I am very familiar. I regret leaving this review however it does accurately reflect how the facility is ran and some people who frequent the establishment.
I was accosted outside by what could only be explained to be someone having a bad day. Apparently this person was upset I was walking in the parking lot and not going out of my way to use the sidewalk. Words were exchanged and apparently he wanted to become physical. He eventually drove away yelling "cracker a$$".
Thievery was rampant in the men's locker room with the old automated lockers. I was a victim and I am sure others were as well. The lockers have since been changed but these lockers should have never been installed in the first place.
Cleanliness is another thing. The Men's locker room is disgusting and the bathroom smells like its cleaned at best once a week. The lap pool is filthy. People do not shower before using it. There use to be availability to swim in the evening at the Schroeder pool but that is no longer an option.
I understand the YMCA encourages inclusive membership throughout the community. As a result you get a wide range of people who use the resource. There is a lot of good to be said about what the Y does offer but one must also consider other factors including safety and well-being. This was the first time I felt threatened in the 30+ years I have visited. As a result it's ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStaff is great! hours less than great, may have to find another place :(
Update: ever since the financial melt down the Y has been in decline. If you call there are endless prompts and then disconnected. At faith family Y there is always a "live" person on the end! Hours continue to cut to both facility and aquatics. Don't ever bring anything of value, I have had locker opened twice and one time wallet with 74 dollars was taken. we have foster kiddos in Y daycare and always have billing problems that spill over to our fitness membership. speaking of ships, it's no wonder decline continues when services are cut, people's lockers are ripped off (inside job they had master code for lock out, no forced entry) billing irregularities, an last but most unfortunate business mission statement makes it almost impossible to stay afloat. I don't know how much longer We are going to circle the drain :(
UPDATE: Two years later, we're still here, not much has changed š but showers are dirty and some have been broken for years, bathrooms smell of pee, water fountains in pool area have been broken for over four years and hot tub has been so filthy had to call Brown Deer health department because complaints did no good. Only up side staff is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is great, most of the time.Huge issue that NOBODY takes care of-people not wearing swimsuits!I have filled out comment cards and spoken with people,at the front desk and nothing changes.Today,2 people in street clothes. And they are not dressed this way for religious beliefs. If so,she wouldn't be wearing a v neck tee.Leggings down to her ankle. The other lady parked next to me and when I got into the pool she was in wearing the clothes she came in.I Alsosee people wearing regular clothes in the pool, almost every time I come here. 2 yr old wearing a diaper,no swimsuit or swim diaper. The lifeguards don't say anything, ever. You need to enforce these rules.I am so sick of watching people go into the pool wearing the clothes they came here in.Today is a 90* day and she was dripping sweat. So, I had to get out and leave. These people are old enough to follow the rules.I do.They lazy lifeguards should be enforcing them,as well.Signs don't seem to work. This is my only concern.I try to come everyday and am very pleased with everything else. I'm just tired of dirty, disgusting people who think the rules don't apply to them. I'm sure nothing will happen,as usual. But, maybe the right person will read this and do the right thing.Thanks...
