I shop at academy a lot. So when you walk into the store, you're greeted with a very clean store that is very well merchandised, and knowledgeable staff. Every time I go in I find what I am looking for and more, usually by the suggestion of an employee. The fireams counter employees are always knowledgeable and fun to interact with, and considering I usually hate going into "big box stores" and engaging in small talk, that's pretty good. Aside from the firearms counter, the aparal section is always neat and recoverd, pretty good sales seem like a daily ocourance, and they have most sizes from what I've seen. The shoe section has a very good selection, although small, considering I can find my size, which is 15, I consider that a plus. All in all, Academy puts every other sporting/outdoor store I've been to to shame. I've never had a particularly good experience shopping, considering I don't like to shop, though this store has...

I have been a long time customer of academy sports. I have purchased camping gear and hunting firearms from them since they first opened in Brunswick. Today I was leaving academy sports and was Followed to my vehicle where an employee took pictures of my license plate and Accused me of Shoplifting and demanded I give them back their package. They had no proof of what they accused me of and then when I was asked to remove the package from my waist they realized the package was actually my personal firearm. I then got into my vehicle and decided I would go back and speak to a manager. Opon entering the store the employees were talking openly in front of other customers about me. The manager would not give me the respect of talking in private about how his employees humiliated me. I was embarrassed and treated wrongly for something they had no proof or security footage of. Super clean, bright and inviting store. The guy working the gun counter was very friendly and knowledgeable. He had no problem pulling down and/or out several items for us to view, hold and check out. We had an issue navigating the shoe department but didn't have to go far to find a helpful and friendly employee to guide us. The employee walked us over to the children's Hey Dudes when she could've easily just told us where to go. I love going to stores like this to look at things for future purchases while grabbing what I need. The employees made it a great experience for us. I'm used to shopping in larger stores carrying similar items but I greatly enjoyed this smaller store packed with everything I needed to see. I say smaller but in reality Academy is a large store!
