Recently, my husband and I visited Big Island which is located near Sam’s Club and Cheddar’s on Canal Crossing Road. We went on October 13th. It was very easy to find the restaurant because it is in a plaza with a big chicken logo. The restaurant is open Sunday through Friday, 11am to 9:30pm. This is a casual dining restaurant, very similar to chipotle. It has 2000’s music playing in the background with an island decoration vibe to it. The staff was super friendly, asking if we were from town or visiting and suggesting some of the food to try. I got a single entree with a base of fried rice and mac and cheese with curry chicken, with pickled onions on the side (I love pickled onions and these were amazing, they are made in house!) and crab rangoons. My husband got a double entree with just fried rice as the base with grilled chicken, fried shrimp, and plantains. We paid $40 for both of our meals and two drinks. They also gave us some samples of sauces they are thinking about adding to the menu. There was a large selection of foods to try with about four bases, and a wide selection of meat to try including lamb shanks and oxtails. They have plenty of toppings to go with it as well. There are no dessert options on the menu. This restaurant was amazing in my opinion. The food was delicious, the curry was not spicy, but still very flavorful. The staff loads up your plate pretty heavy so the portion was worth the price. I will most definitely be back. Everything tasted fresh and went well together. I would love to take my family there, though the dining area is a little small, so I would not suggest large parties. They do however have catering options on the menu....

Overall this place gets a 10/10. Although labeled fast food, the dishes taste like they came from a full-service restaurant.

After striking out twice on Caribbean food in the Brunswick area, I decided to give Big Island Tropical Kitchen a try. This spot is as authentic as you will find in the area. The food is flavorful, with a nice kick, and authentic to its Trinidadian roots.

Food: I got the Jerk Chicken, and Oxtail meal, with rice and mac and cheese, which didn’t disappoint. The Oxtails were tender and fell right off the bone. The included sauces help mellow the heat, which is great if you’re not used to spicy food: I’d recommend getting the Garlic sauce. The spice level is mild, and they do have several non-spicy options.

Service: We were attended by the manager which was very personable, and allowed us to try some of the protein options before...

My husband and I have eaten here a bunch of times and got it again tonight. Seriously our new favorite place to eat. I don't know why anyone would give this place less than 5 stars. Pat and his team are amazing. The food is amazing. The price is great.

Our go-to is the fried rice and noodles (yes both!) with the Caribbean grilled and jerk chicken (it's got a spicy kick!). I always get the cheese rangoons, too with the sweet chili sauce to dip them in.

The steak and curry chicken is also amazing. If you don't like curry, don't get curry lol

Some guy left an awful review about getting sick. That has not been our experience at all. I've even saved my leftovers and reheated them the next day and have been absolutely fine every time we've eaten here.

We'll absolutely be returning...

This new restaurant is a breath of fresh air to Brunswick. It's a valuable addition to the local food scene. It emphasizes the authenticity of Island cuisine, only being able to describe it as having a genuine, home-cooked feel. I particularly appreciate the quality of the ingredients, noting that the fresh proteins shine through without excessive seasoning. Big Island has been consistent with producing high-quality food and service that have led to repeat visits. In reality, you can't go wrong with any of the dishes, but I recommend the perfectly cooked medium-rare steak and the fall-off-the-bone oxtail. My overall impression is highly positive, and I strongly encouraging others to try this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.
