I can't say enough good things in one review about Jukido Academy! I want to start off by saying that Sensei George Rego is FANTASTIC at what he does. He is so patient, kind, respectful & understanding. The dojo is set up very nicely, is so clean, and there is soft padding on the floor that keeps the students safe while being instructed. All of the students are very engaged, focused and determined. One of the many things that won me over in deciding to have my oldest son become a part of the Jukido Academy family was the fact that the older students are so very helpful during lessons with the younger students. Every student I have met has been kind, respectful & welcoming to my son & our family. All the students are expected to help each other during the practicing of Sensei's instructions. Sensei George & his other instructors are fun, energetic and 100% engaged at all times. The children's program meets twice a week and my son wishes it was every night because he loves it so much. The Jukido Academy has already given my son so much! He is more confident, self-sufficient, well behaved, respectful, patient and shows so much more pride in the work that he does during homeschool lessons, too! I love the core values that are the driving force here at this Dojo. They don't simply give out a new belt to a student simply because of attendance, so no "participation trophy". A progression in belt color may only be achieved through hard work and mastering of the skill-set for which that belt requires. I also love the one week free trial that they offer in order to ensure that the Dojo is a good fit for the student and their family. The monthly rate is 100% affordable and the Dojo is completely transparent regarding pricing, schedules and what is expected from the student and family. As a homeschooling, budget-minded mom of three, I don't like surprises, especially when it comes to $$. To be honest, the principles and values that my son has and will learn are priceless! Sensei George and the Jukido Academy have an open door policy and are very receptive to questions and concerns. I didn't really know what Jujitsu entailed and what exactly my son would be learning, so Sensei sent me videos and then took the time to explain further regarding what I would expect. I couldn't ask for a better instructor for my child & myself! I can tell that he is absolutely dedicated to the teachings of Jujitsu and I loved learning about this form of self defense. My son, Michael, is a unique child and is special needs. The fact that he has been made to feel welcome, proud of himself, and is flourishing at the Jukido Academy makes me so happy I could cry.
So, in closing, if you are looking for a welcoming environment for your child(ren) to learn respect, self defense, discipline, honor, integrity, service before self, friendship, restraint, strength, humility and kindness, Jukido Academy is exactly what you've been looking for! Take advantage of the free week trial. I can promise that you won't be...
Read moreWhat can I say about Sensei Rego and the Jukido Academy? Where would I even begin? My name is Antonio and I officially began my training at this fine Dojo on January 4th of 2015.
I think the best way to judge the authenticity of any school of any craft or skill is to hear from someone who has experience not only with good schools but with bad schools.
I first stepped into a martial arts school at age seven. It was a small Kyokushin dojo in New Jersey. Immediately I was hooked in the world of martial arts. Unfortunately due to family circumstances I couldn't continue training. My training wouldn't pick up again until age fifteen. This time at a Kempo school. It was this Kempo school unfortunately that would begin what could only be described as a "wild goose chase" for the right martial arts school. I tried school after school, in town after town searching for a school that would teach what martial arts was truly about...self defense. Even though I was young I still knew something was off with these schools I was attending. I knew somewhere there had to be a school that took self defense serious. I looked tirelessly but could only find schools that kept their students locked in financial scams and trained them for sport.
Then at age 16 I moved to Florida with family. I tried several schools in Florida both in the area and in a neighboring county. I got the same thing. I had heard of the Jukido Academy and wasn't familiar with anything about the school or style, however at this point before trying the school I had laid to rest my seemingly endless search for the right school and had to take care of a major health issue in my family.
Fast forward to age 19 and I still couldn't accept the thought of going through life without being what I wanted to be, what I need to be. A martial artist.
Remembering the Jukido Academy I decided to give them a try. That is a decision I am forever pleased with, because Sensei Rego and the Jukido academy have finally ended my search.
I am beyond proud to call the Jukido Academy my home and even more proud to call Sensei Rego my Sensei. Sensei Rego is truly encylcopedic in his knowledge of martial arts, and his passion and dedication for teaching and preserving the knowledge of authentic martial arts is beyond inspiring.
This Dojo is not run like a business, this Dojo is a family that is united in the pursuit of teaching, learning, and preserving martial arts at the highest caliber.
There's nothing flashy at this Dojo, just mats, gi's and a love of the art.
Sensei Rego and the Jukido academy are truly a gift in my life I thank God for.
Would I recommend the Jukido...
Read moreI joined the Jukido Jujitsu Academy in June of 2023. I had been living in Flagler County for years and never quite felt at home outside of work. However, that changed immediately after becoming a part of the academy. Chief Instructor, Master George Rego, is a fantastic teacher, mentor and now, friend. He not only continues the lessons he learned from founder of the arts and association of Kokondo, Shihan Paul Arel, but he also strives to showcase a true connection and need for practical self defense in everyday life. This includes finding real stories of how the techniques (or similar techniques) we learn in class can be employed and will be effective in protecting oneself or others.
The classes are relevant, challenging but most importantly rewarding and empowering. From my early childhood to my career in the military and law enforcement, I have learned several forms of martial arts. However, I have learned more and feel more confident in my skills from the short time I have been at the academy than the last 30+ years of my life. Not only is the instructor crucial in the training, all of the other students, especially the Black belts, are key in the development and growth of the less experienced members. My fellow members of the dojo are knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and encouraging.
At the end of my first day, most if not all of the members in attendance had introduced themselves to me and asked if I was going to come back. I always felt welcomed and like my presence mattered. These members have all grown to be not only friends, but nothing short of true family members. So much in fact that despite having recently moved to Orlando, I will still drive back to Palm Coast, almost weekly, to attend classes.
I surely could find another dojo in the Orlando area. However, it would not be nearly the same. So, I will continue to make that 3 hour round trip drive just to continue my education with those who have become my family. If you are in the Palm Coast area and are looking to learn a form of martial arts, or maybe you want to discipline and challenge yourself, you need look no further than the Jukido Jujitsu Academy. 10 out of 10. 5 Stars....
