I moved to Elon two years ago and this is one of the stores where I shop on a semi-regular basis. The employees are nice and service is generally okay when I've been there. I have had several recent frustrating experiences with some employees who were restocking shelves. As long as you know where to find stuff on your own, you're probably okay. It's been consistently difficult for me to find employees there who can check on items that aren't where they usually are. If you don't mind a gum-chewing high schooler telling you, "If it ain't on the shelves, we don't have it." then you're probably fine. In the age of computer inventory, no one there has yet offered to try and look it up on their little handheld inventory device. Funny, just last week at the nearby Target store, I asked a young employee about an item that I purchase regularly and that seemed to be out of stock. The kid immediately went to his official Target e-device and within 15 seconds told me specifically what day they were getting the product in, AND how many they were receiving. Go figure. I'll probably continue to buy some things at this Food Lion location but two days ago I purchased a two pack of NY Strip steaks. I grilled them (medium rare) tonight and they were inedible – tough as shoe leather ... no exaggeration. So, in the future I'll avoid buying beef there and stick with the great butcher department just down the road at Harris Teeter. I've genuinely tried to like this store but it just comes up a bit...
Read moreI used to like coming to this food lion but overtime the staff has became really rude and unprofessional and makes it a very hostile environment to even shop in and this was my go to grocery store, not anymore. I came in 20 minutes before closing Thursday night and I was already in the checkout line before closing time and the girl who was scanning my groceries (a Caucasian looking young lady/really tall/short dark hair) was being really rude to me and as I was paying for my groceries she went on the inner-come to announce that there was 1 more minute left in the store and that they were closing when I was the only person left in the store to be funny and the girl beside her (a tall-ish girl w/braids dark skinned) just laughed encouraging her negative behavior. This isn’t the first occasion I’ve had a rude encounter with another lady (Caucasian lady with blond hair and glasses) I went in with a close friend who’s over 40 and I’m close to 30 and we both got I.D, I don’t mind but it’s just ironic how they told me they know who I am and haven’t I.D me before multiple times plus they’ve already seen my I.D prior to...
Read moreI’m not sure why they have someone standing right there watching everything that you scan at self checkout, instead of being at a register actually doing something. I was at this location yesterday and the cashier stood right where I was and watched every move that I made. She made me feel as if I was going to steal something. I asked her, why do they have self checkout if they are just going to stand there and watch you. She wasn’t across from me watching, she was right on me. I told her I was there to buy food for a needy family and I wasn’t going to steal anything. This made me feel like a criminal when I was trying to help a family. The self checkouts need to go if there is a problem with theft. I felt like I was singled out, she never offered to help, just stood and stared at me doing her job. Most of the time they watch you from a distance, but...
