I’ll tell you exactly how Denver Mattress won my business at a moment when I was nearly determined to forego purchasing a mattress in a store over buying online. They had in Gabe an honest, sincere and knowledgeable salesperson who did not hover over me the entire time I was in the store, as has happened to me with countless competitors. And he did not try to upsell me on a more expensive mattress.
Separate from just Gabe himself, the store had my chosen mattress (Purple Plus) priced competitively, as the prices matched the lowest price I’d been able to find anywhere else. (Note, I am not saying they price-matched anything. Just that the price matched the lowest I’d personally found anywhere, including the Purple website.) They also offered a very generous 365-day trial period, which not many companies have. And their return policy does not limit you to the same brand or price point as the mattress you purchased, something I’d never heard of before from anyone else. They also will refund the difference in cost if you need to exchange for a lower-priced bed. (That should just be common sense, honestly, but sadly is not in all cases.)
It’s $99 for their white glove delivery service, a luxury perk which here is competitively priced. Some companies offer it for free — though it’s often contracted out to a third-party, which can be problematic — and others charge $199 or more for it. I have plenty of friends who could have helped me move and set up the bed, but in addition to the convenience factor — they also haul off the old mattress — it helped that they were able to apply a portion of a $100 gift offer from Purple to the cost of the delivery service, taking the price down to about $75. (The rest was used on a mattress pad.)

We picked Denver Mattress because it was definitely the quietest and smoothest operating unit we looked at; and the price compared favorably with competitors. Recently, we began having different problems with both sides. We originally contacted the company responsible for handling the extended warranty. After making no progress and no indication of any intention to address the problem, we approached Denver Mattress directly. We went into the store and met with Gabe, the manager and our original salesman. We explained the situation and he asked us to give him time to look into it. After he had done this, he explained there was a process he had to follow in order to address the issue, including the providing of details of the problems. For the record, we were informed Denver Mattress no longer uses that company for their extended warranties. After reviewing the documentation we provided, Gabe then spoke with his regional manager, who had been kept abreast of this situation all along, and he approved Gabe's suggestion to replace both beds and covering them under their new warranty provider. Their actions have completely restored our faith that companies like Denver Mattress are run by human beings and not just machines using numbers only for decisions. While Gabe was wonderful, the delivery was horrible. The mattress was mishandled, the base is ripped, and the piece for the headboard was not delivered even after we called this morning to make sure it was included. The guys delivering kept handing all the little pieces (pillows, sheets, etc) to my husband while he was trying to hold the dog.
I called the store to get a replacement delivered. The guy who answered said we can file a warranty claim. We just dropped over $5000 on this bed. I shouldn't have to wait for a warranty claim. I asked to speak with a manager and he said there wasn't one there. I requested that this issue please be sent to a manager today so they can replace tomorrow. The man laughed at me, literally laughed at me, and said very condescendingly, "Sure, have a goodnight."
