Long review but worth the read if you are planning to live here. Incompetent management, as the entirety of the staff almost, are college students who don't really care about their residents needs because they are getting a discounted rent... Always a problem, always. Whether it be the electric key fob not working, or them not responding to your maintenance requests, to spotty wifi. Don't plan on trying to watch Netflix, youtube or Hulu without using your own personal hotspot. Their website says "student living" yet they have many residents that have no affiliation with UNCC.... there has to be something protecting them against that because their website is straight L Y I N G! "Security gates" are ALWAYS left open. When my boyfriend would come over he would be able to get up to my apartment without me having to open a single door for him, how reassuring (Sarcasm). Not to mention on the weekends the garage car gate that only residents with passes are allowed to get through are left open... why? No one knows. You would think if they are left open that guests could park there.. right? Nope... guests have to pay, along with residents ($35/month). They just leave it open yet the tow truck comes through. I have photographic evidence of a "security guard" lounging in a chair, feet up, on his phone around 11pm at night.... a time where crime is bound to happen, oh and my boyfriend and I actually saw him SLEEPING on the couch in the lobby common area. Residents constantly smoking weed, no matter where you walk in or around the building you smell weed, or human urine, whichever your nose can pick up first. The place to go do it is the top of the parking deck (Where I had to park everyday) in your car... classy!!!! You would think with their security guards this wouldn't be a problem, right? Oh no... they don't do anything. University Crossings is literally wasting their money by paying some of them... there is a lawsuit waiting to happen. A pro to this complex is its proximity to campus, that is about the only positive thing I could say. The study room is nice and spacious but only if you like hearing every single conversation from people downstairs, oh and if you enjoy hearing rap music blaring from the gym. People always PARKING in the FIRE LANE... fire lane is for FIRE T R U C K S, not a 1998 Honda accord. Straight disrespect. No sympathy for them when a firetruck comes through and side swipes their car. Rent is overpriced for this complex... the rooms were somewhat nice but when you have all your belongings in there it begins to feel a little cramped. When I sublet my apartment they made me sign a form that said if there was any damage done to the COMMON area that I would be held responsible... yes, me. When I told them that I wasn't going to let them charge me for something my roommates did after I moved out, they gave me an ugly look. I even offered for them to go with me to go look at everything in the common area so they could document what it looks like now so when July 2019 comes around I won't be charged for anything my roommates did... guess what? They didn't want to go and look. Moral of this story... i take full responsibility for any damage in MY room that i PAID for but won't be taking any responsibility for any damage my roommates cause after I move out, and if they do decide to charge me, I will not hesitate to take legal action. Elevators... they hardly ever work... actually after you're standing in it for a good 5 minutes after the door opens and closes 7 times, they might work. You're better off planning to always take the stairs and not waste your energy and time walking to an elevator. The end. Goodbye University Crossings, I will...
Read moreI would describe this as the worst idea I have ever had. This place is ridiculous. It's not all bad, but the bad outweigh the good any day. To be fair, I'll start with the good. You are living with a bunch of college students so always keep that in mind.
Good: Maintenance - The maintenance guys are very good at their jobs and are very friendly. I had to call an emergency maintenance my very first day at Circle in August because the front door came off the hinge (construction won't be mentioned, but really???). The other times it has been good. Although when my roommate moved out, he left his light on and the staff made me submit a maintenance request to turn it off so they deal with a bunch of stupid things.
Proximity to campus - You are definitely close to UNCC and a grocery store, so its a great place. The big rule of real estate is location, location, location and this place definitely is situated nicely. I enjoy the walk to Harris Teeter even though I could easily drive.
Modern - The apartment is nice. Not too nice, but nice enough.
Workout - The gym I love. It's so nice to be able to work out in a well furnished gym and having a pool is nice.
Bad: Parking - First off, $35 to use the parking garage is separate from your rent. The garage is not bad and I don't blame anyone but the lazy people that live here for the garage always having bags and cups all over it.
--- The thing I got most irate over is I had a friend come over and she parked in the garage at roughly midnight and her car was towed before 6 am. Now I understand that she technically violated parking, but to tow the car within that frame is ludicrous. Now I know guest parking is a touchy situation here and rarely do I have guest, in fact I don't allow my friends to come by because I don't want their car towed. The towing is done by the least legitimate company ever in ACE towing. Highway robbery!!! Like a lot of students, her vehicle was in her parents name and unless they were there I couldn't pay with credit card, oh but with $140 cash no paper work required. Oh by the way, if they keep your car past 11 AM then its another day charge of like $25 even if it has only been five hours.
Pets - I like how this place is pet friendly, but college kids don't clean up after their pets so you have the smell of urine and feces all the time. Be warned.
Furniture - So they furniture is cheaper than a Chinese version of IKEA and the corners are sharp knives that poke the ever living hell out of you making comfort impossible. It's cheap though and Greystar loves cheap! I've seen so many brown couches this semester be thrown away, I swear they get these buy two get one free.
Staff - Hit and miss. Don't be surprised if you are lied too.
SIGN NOW - So once you move in that first week, you are feeling awesome and getting ready for the semester. The last thing you are thinking about is renewing already, but CUC is taping to your door renew now before your rent goes up $50 next year or however much. Within the first two weeks, I had three notices.
Bottom Line, I get this place needs to make money, but it's at the expense of you. I would not recommend anyone sign a lease here. When they told me I never actually signed and needed to sign again, I should have backed out and moved out right then and there. I'm glad my year is ending and I will never renew or consider Circle again or for the matter of fact, Greystar as they hire incompetent managers. I believe that friends should not allow their friends to come to this place and if you are a parent, look at other places, even though the commute might be longer, trust me...
Read moreI currently live at University Crossings, and this is my second leasing term unfortunately. When in search for places to live off-campus while attending UNCC, this complexes website went above and beyond my expectations(but remember I said WEBSITE). Quickly after I moved in I found out many of the things this apartment complex advertised did not hold true. We are told we are safe, and have plenty of security. On many of occasions I have received emails from the office saying there was a girl sexual assulated in one of the buildings, three armed men broke down a LOCKED door, our parking garage gates are always broken, and left open to the public, the gates that lock that separate the buildings are always broken as well(not to mention they are at the height that is made easy to jump over), a homeless man lived in the clubhouse(ABOVE THE OFFICE) for over a year before anything was done, and lastly you can openly see many drug associated transactions on the premises. As for the service you get from the employees in the office, the college students are actually more helpful than the actual managers, or people above them. Instead of the managers being helpful and trying to find a solution to the problem all you get is arguing, and shut down. Not to mention one the of the managers, Rebekah, was caught by a resident making very racist /harmful remarks about other residents, and is still in contact with them everyday. The college students employed by the office, also write all the fake 5 star reviews for this complex(if you don't believe me, go in the office ask for there names and go back through these reviews). The rate for a four bedroom apartment is $649/month, but I pay over $700 every month(and I’ve only paid rent late a few times). When you have questions about overages, they just say they can’t provide us with that information or that it COULD be this or that. There are no definitive answers, so it feels like we are just paying to get this complex out of bankruptcy. Also, if you are ever homesick and missing your family, you better get in the car and drive home, because they provide you with no guest parking whatsoever, unless you want your guest to have to pay to visit you. As residents we pay a fee every month to park in the garage, and are still at risk of getting towed at any time. My car has been hit multiple times in the garage and still nothing was done. The amenities that we are offered almost never work. The pool was closed more than half of the summer, the fire pits never worked when my roommates and I tried to use them, and the grills rarely ever work. I have called countless times for them to come fix our air conditioner, and washer/dryer and nothing was done. It literally took weeks for someone to even come look at the problem, let alone for them to actually come fix them. The apartments are definitely not worth what we have to pay every month, and there are very few good things that could be said about this complex. Lastly, when we moved in the apartment was absolutely disgusting(individual rooms as well as the common area), nothing was cleaned like they said. Many of the things in my room were already broken, such as my shower head, my closet doors have never closed and there was a hole in one. Please save yourself the trouble, and look at other options(this place is only convenient for its location).
PS. I wish I could rate this place with zero stars, but it...
