My family and I have been using Coastal Shores for years. This is the first year that we had to choose a new rental property due to the fact that Hill House, our usual rental through Coastal Shores, was not available for the dates we wanted this year. It has been hell. We reserved and are staying at HIGHLAND HOUSE in Chincoteague. I do not recommend this property. There are hand written post it notes everywhere explaining how to go about making things functional and this is unacceptable considering the amount we paid to have a house that is functional. The toilets have to be flushed twice EVERY TIME “to avoid back ups” and each one has a post it note on it saying so (see photo). The living room carpet is absolutely disgusting as it is covered in stains that have very obviously not been properly cleaned or sanitized and quite possibly, not even vacuumed (not that it would matter if it had been vacuumed because the vacuum is so disgusting that it would not do anything but add to the filth (see photo). We had to wash all of the kitchen and bathroom throw rugs as they were filthy and underneath them was even worse. It is absolutely not okay to have to clean a rental property upon our arrival that we reserved and paid for (the cost being unfair at this point for what we got versus what we paid for) months ago. The most offensive part of this is that this property advertised by Coastal Shores, includes “ENHANCED CLEANING PRACTICES” in its list of amenities (see photo) – which is simply false advertising. The house advertised that it could sleep maximum of 9 people. There are 3 beds and two air mattresses. There were not enough sheets, pillows or blankets for each of the beds and air mattresses. I had to go purchase pillows and four blankets (which are hard to find on the island and took me days to find, leaving several of us cold at night) out of my own pocket because nobody responded to our message. When I went into the office to inquire about a few issues, the answer I received about the pillows and blankets was “yeah, we do not have any pillows or blankets in stock right now.” Finally, and most concerning, is the lack of care that was taken to assure that the property was free of avoidable hazards and safety issues upon our arrival, or any persons arrival who has a reservation. I found two rusted bolts on the deck and there is a nail sticking up on one of the main steps (see photo). More concerningly, my niece was in the yard when she felt something sharp go through the the bottom of her shoe. Looking at the bottom of her shoe was shocking as she had stepped on a very large and very rusted nail and she was only a few feet from the deck when it happened (see photo). In addition to this, my mom stepped on a rusted tack two days later that was on the floor in one of the bedrooms (the one with the twin bed which is made to be a child’s bedroom). I understand that by signing the agreement we agreed to accepting the house and it’s items and décor per the owners liking, but we did not agree or pay to stay in a house that has hazards like we have encountered nor did we agree to stay in a house that has not been properly cleaned and sanitized (let me stress that the carpet in the living room is so disgusting that we cannot enjoy the room as part of the house. These are not just inconveniences. These are issues that pose serious health risks and put people at risk for injury and illness (dirty and stained carpets, rusted nails and tacks, etc) and can turn into a legal issue – especially with the lack of response and appropriate resolution which Coastal Shores has failed to provide us. We are here for another week and we will not be using this company in the future.

I booked this place for a quick getaway with my husband and our small dog. While the listing had potential, our experience fell short in a few key areas. To start, be aware that they are very strict with their 4 PM check-in time — even if you arrive just 15 minutes early, your access code won’t work until exactly 4 PM. A few days before our stay, the host messaged asking if we wanted to extend our trip (the property was still available). While we couldn’t extend, I politely asked if there was a possibility for complimentary early check-in. I was told it would cost $95 to check in at 1 PM, but I could check again closer to the date. On the day of arrival, I asked again — and was still offered the same $95 fee, despite the fact that no one had stayed at the property the night before. That left a bad taste, especially since the home was clearly ready. It felt more like an upsell than hospitality. There were also a number of other hiccups. The front door doesn’t have a keypad — instead, guests are required to use the side/garage door to get in and out. Not sure why they didn’t install the keypad on the front door, or at the very least, provide a key in a lockbox so guests have a more practical option. It rained during our stay, and to get to the side door, you have to walk through the grass area — which turned muddy and made it inconvenient. If guests are going to be forced to use that door, there should at least be a proper paved path to walk on. Then after a long day of travel and activities, we found that none of the beds had sheets or pillowcases. There was a bag of linens left on the dresser, so we had to make the beds ourselves — not something you expect to do on vacation. As for cleanliness, while we appreciated that the home is pet-friendly, it didn’t seem like it had been cleaned thoroughly. There was dog hair on the couch and even on the dining table. We’ve stayed in many pet-friendly places before, and this one was below expectations — especially considering the extra pet fee we paid. Although this rental is advertised as pet-friendly, there were no pet amenities whatsoever — not even a designated dog waste station or outdoor trash can for poop bags. Yet, they made sure to highlight in their check-out instructions that guests would be charged an extra cleaning fee if any pet excrement is left behind. That felt a bit one-sided — expecting responsibility from guests without providing basic support. Unfortunately, while the house has potential, the overall experience felt impersonal and profit-driven, and lacked the comfort, convenience, and hospitality that make a stay memorable.

Rented Unfettered View property through Chincoteague Resort Vacations and they were excellent throughout the booking process and stay. Fantastic communications and customer service. We rented this house for a couple of nights for a quick getaway expecting to be a no thrills kind of place based on the pictures. However, the pictures did not do it justice. The pictures are outdated on their website, some furniture have been updated and rearranged (for the better). The location looked to be scary when you first pull up as it is tucked away at the end of a gravel street and shared driveway with a neighbor. After opening the front door you are welcomed with a cozy little house that's totally equipped for short or long stays. The kitchen is well stocked with all sorts of gadgets and appliances (Keurig coffee maker, air fryer, modern fridge, etc). Awesome wifi router and SmartTV was a nice surprise! The view and private pier was amazing! Can't beat waking up every morning and enjoying that view as the sunset. The provided crab traps were another surprise bonus, we didn't have much luck but it's November so not quite crabbing season. Only disappointment in the house was the tiny TV in the master bedroom and none in the second bedroom. Beware of vicious mosquitoes in the evening in the backyard and pier!

My husband and I decided to take a vacation. Little did we know that when we were going to get there, the property was not ready. And as I'm reading a lot of reviews, apparently that's nothing new. They had fixed that gave my kids ice cream gift cards which was great. We waited, and waited, and we decided to drive by to see if the property was almost done. The cleaning people lied, and stated that they were there. We knew what time maintenance people got there, and when they left. We told the resort about that, they had apologized. But that'd put a sour taste in our mouths. We were finally ours later able to go to the property. We got our stuff in the house and walked into there and thought all this is nice... We sat stuff on the tables, and started unpacking. some of the tables felt like they were going to fall apart. Which is whatever it's a rental property. We rented this property due to my husband, he's so tall that he can't get into a regular bathtub. This one had a big jacuzzi. My husband was all excited about actually able to get a bath. return the jacuzzi tub on and there was so much black sludge that came out of it oh my gosh it turned his stomach. He was inside the jacuzzi tub when all of that black sludge came out. there was other little stuff that also was just going wrong through that whole trip but the biggest thing that I just can't get out of my mind is now what I'm still dealing with today. There are four rooms in that property. And in one of the children's rooms oh, when we were getting ready to leave, we had noticed something. There were notes stating to not move the bed cover, and due to it being a rental in such a nice company we didn't think anything about that. The one in the room where my children were staying at. Pulled off, and there were bed bugs in the property. We came home with bed bugs.... We originally thought it's whatever will just get the treatment and fix it. But it's now been months, and we cannot get rid of it. I had reached out to them and I told them that so far it is cost us around $2,000. That was just so far since we've left. That was just for some bed covers, and some of the treatments. As of today nothing else has been covered it all. We had purchased a new home, and now we're going to end up taking bed bugs into our new property. Whenever I had spoke to the person about anything at all about feeling bad or really anything about what has happened now, she has stated about a heat treatment, that they had to do a heat treatment in that property, what's that so fine and dandy but because I stayed at that rental now I have them.... Now I have to pay out of my pocket for a damn heat treatment.... I had called back about 3 days ago now and I have not received a call. I'm to the point to where we're probably going to have to sue them. and I really did not want to have to do that. Because that is then more money out of my pocket just to sue them. My children have had bites on their faces, they've literally been getting bit everywhere. I washed and dried everything after they had acknowledged that that property had bed bugs, but my kids laid the stuff on the couch for me to wash it. But how am I supposed to get mad at my children for that, whenever they should be checking that stuff. We had met the cleaning company when we had told them about the jacuzzi tub. and it completely made sense why no one did anything about the bed bugs. The cleaning company was disgusting. my husband and I have $300 off of our next day due to the jacuzzi tub and whatnot, and I can promise you we will not be using that. We will never be going back there. What type of company expect you to pay for heat treatment? We didn't bring the damn bugs. And in the beginning you know I kept replaying our conversation and I was fine with what she said but come that night I was not. they should have knew about that. They acknowledged that that property had bed bugs the day we left. So why in the world am I...

I rate this beauty Chamallo) 4- 3/4 stars.... Only snafus (and they were manageable with pre-planning and creativity. advertised "bedroom 1" on the first floor that was chosen for my low mobility step-dad. It is what I would call a parlor/ livingroom/ office right off the main front door, however, this "Bedroom did not have an actual door for his privacy. (it did had one bifold door on the other side of the room which was most appreciated. We pre-planned and brought a no-damage curtain for this open doorway.

*This home lacked curtains for privacy/keeping the heat out/more energy efficiency on many of the windows and slider. I feel curtains really help keep the air conditioner running at a higher setting saving $. We were proactive and brought no-damage temporary curtains for rooms to keep them cool and so we could be more energy efficient for the owner and rental company.

*This home lacked shade (umbrellas) for the porch. So we were proactive and brought 3 umbrellas and 3 bases. We also brought 2 pop tents. This really helped keep the kitchen cool when the sun was pounding on the back of the house.

Small snafu's that I was able to pre-plan.... Otherwise, in ALL of our years of renting homes for our large brood---- this is by far our MOST FAVORITE house ever!! My kids were so happy! We look forward to staying this same week next year. Kayaks, well appointed kitchen, extra fridge in the garage, (the garage itself was so wonderful for keeping our items) crabbing equipment, the climate controlled sun room was our favorite!... this house just kept getting better as we first explored the grounds. The bedrooms were LARGE. The air conditioning worked so well and we were thrilled. The laundry facilities were fantastic for our brood (love the location in the kitchen will all of the extra storage above) We did clean out the dryer vents to the outdoors for safety....smelled a little burning....all is well and we were happy to help. SOOO much storage in this kitchen. LOVE IT! We treated this home (and any home we rent) with great care as if it is our own.

The floating dock was a plus! We brought our SUP's and loved the ease of entering and exiting the water. PERFECT location if you are a water lover. The flat backyard was perfect for our games of corn hole. I was SO tempted to weed the gardens as I can see how beautiful they must be when tended.... but I had to refrain. Our children enjoyed making hot mint tea with the mint in the yard.

This is such a beautiful home. (if you ever want to sell this home....please call us! (-: The neighbors are fantastic!

THANK YOU THANK YOU for a most AWESOME vacation!!!!

With our Thanks and compliments to the owner & rental...
