Surfside Golf — Local services in Chincoteague

Our family was excited to do mini golf here and were told we could not bring my 9 year old son’s service dog (diabetic alert dog for type 1 diabetes) into the mini golfing area. The lady at the window said her boss doesn’t allow pets on the green. I told her a service dog is not a pet and it’s illegal to discriminate against someone who uses a service dog, for a life-threatening condition no less. She kept saying “pet” when I kept saying he’s not a pet. He’s legally a medical device. She kept saying the owner doesn’t care and had denied other service dogs before. Very heartless. My family felt discriminated against and very upset that my son had to experience such negativity like this for living with a chronic life-threatening disease. We have never encountered a place before that was so discriminatory with our highly trained service dog. Everyone else has been very welcoming to us. Very disappointed and unfortunately my son won’t forget this negative experience. What a great course. They actually have 2, a front 18 holes and a back 18 holes. We played both and we thought the easier course was the back 18. Nice folks running the place. The thing that really struck us was how neat and orderly the courses were kept. The little pebbles were all in the garden areas as well as the mulch. The holes were completely free of leaves, pebbles, and debris. All of the decorative animals were well painted and maintained. Had a fantastic time!! 18 or 36 holes, wish we'd chosen the latter bc we had such a blast. Pretty standard mini golf I guess but conveniently located, we rode our bikes over from the campground down the road. Service was friendly and I was particularly impressed that the young woman at the service counter remembered me saying that we wanted fried dough on the way out so she checked with us towards the end of our game and had it fried to golden perfection perfectly on time as we were handing in the clubs and heading out.
