Assateague Inn — Local services in Chincoteague

We’ve gone to this hotel each June for the last eight years. It’s a great spot for the group of families we go with — one family gets the suite with the full size kitchen on the first floor and we all hang out there, in the pool, and at the picnic tables. We always had a super friendly staff and we were well taken care of. The inn is actually a bunch of condos that the HOA rents out.

Unfortunately, we had a nightmare experience this year. We previously had daily room service and staff were there from 9-5. When we arrived this year, 1) no one was there to let us in or had given us the combination to the lock box so we could get in ourselves, 2) staff generally aren’t around and 3) we were provided with one roll of toilet paper and one set of towels for the entire stay (5 days). When a friend asked for a replacement towel, the cleaning crew was apologetic but said they weren’t allowed to do that.

It seems the HOA is just greedy — we paid more than ever for a whole lot less.

Great place to stay, clean, peaceful, this was our second time staying here and we love it, definitely coming back again 2 or 3 more times this year, my family like how close we are to restaurants, shops and beach 🥰, the kitchenette is excellent to make a nice dinner to sit down as a family at a table and the chairs outside the room makes it nice to sit and relax and hear the birds and the dock to walk out on to just enjoy everything, my wife likes the basket in the lobby with the different books to read in the lobby or up in the room, I can't say enough how much we like it, anything we need like towels they don't hesitate to help us 🙂. Great location but sub par amenities. Tiny, almost unusable kitchen. Small table and tiny television. Zero staff was there at all for the 3 nights we stayed. ABSOLUTElY INFESTED with cats. Cats literally everywhere and underneath the building is their litter box which you can absolutely smell. If you sit out on the balcony be prepared to have 2-4 feral cats just staring you down looking for food. One even snuck into our room for a bit before running out.

Bright side of our stay was we were able to grab two happy and healthy 5 week old kittens and brought them home with us. If we hadn't gotten the two most amazing little kittens, I'm not sure we would have enjoyed our stay here at all. They really need to TNR the cat population there because it is...
