My husband and I were visiting from Chicago and went here because someone we met while vacationing in Gatlinburg recommended it. At the Candle Lab we made a special candle “The Heichman”. We were on opposite ends of the scent spectrum and Natalie and Rolan (sp) were so patient with us. The process was so easy and fun. First you need to figure out what type of scents you like. In order to do that you need to smell the different candles they have. If you don’t want to smell all the candles, they are alphabetize so you can pick the ones that you already know you like. They provide you with a sheet of paper where you write down your top scents. Then they help you figure out a custom scent. We literally smelled like every scent. They helped us narrow it down to the perfect blend of “water” scents from our list. They also helped us do the same with our own individual wax melts and another one for my husband’s company Sweet Comfort Creations. We received a label so we can customize name our custom scents. We highly recommend going here if you want a creative way to connect with your loved ones and friends. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was inviting and warm. We picked up our candles a few days later because we came late in the day. We highly...
Read moreFun experience! But the staff almost ruins it with their bored, anti-social attitudes. They don't welcome you or give general instructions (how to begin the candle making process) and we all felt vaguely unwelcome, as if we were walking in moments before they closed--even though that was not the case. It was my first time making candles at a place like this, and I would have loved to feel a little more confident about what I was doing! There were people coming in behind us as well, and it was unclear if we were supposed to take a seat or wait until our party was ready, or if we needed to wait in a line. The room is tiny so this uncertainty and shuffling around was especially confusing and could have been avoided if a staff member had looked up from their candle and/or cell phone long enough to say "Welcome to Candle Bar! Choose your scents and have a seat when you're ready!" or whatever the instructions might be.
One staff member, Jordan, is the exception! She did warm up over time and seemed to sense the need for some instruction. Otherwise we probably wouldn't have stayed.
Each 8oz candle costs roughly $17, but I would put the quality on par with any $5.99 candle...
Read moreWe visited the candle lab for the first time last Sunday. My SO and I both love candles and I decided he deserved for me to take him out for a nice day for once. The candle lab was absolutely perfect. It was such a unique experience to be able to create our own scents. While I would say it is a little expensive, I would put it on par price wise with Yankee candle and for that price I’d much prefer to make the exact candle that I want with unique scents and while making memories. While we waited for our candles to harden, we easily walked OTR. We had lunch at taste of Belgium and walked a lot of shops. There are so many other things to occupy your time if you want to wait and take your candles home that day. It was the perfect relaxing Sunday date day and a great way to enjoy a vibrant downtown atmosphere. I would highly recommend the candle lab to anyone and we will happily be visiting...
