This encounter was a vivid reminder that the color of my skin impacts the way individuals interact with me. Today I visited the Glenway Ave, Cincinnati location with my son to make a return of a product he received for Christmas. Once we approached the cashier and asked to make the return we were immediately responded with, āI cannot give you cash for this item.ā Cash was not our request as we simply wanted to browse the store for an exchange. During this encounter I had even called the buyer to explain to both the cashier and a manager the return instruction she was given by another Ulta Beauty location. Due to the buyerās phone number not reflecting the purchase and no receipt being presented, a resolution was not provided by the manager. Upon leaving, the buyer called back after finding receipt. I returned to the store to then be explained by the manager, alternative searches could have been made to find in order to find the original purchase. I was then told by the manager, āwe have to be careful, we run into a lot of suspicious people this time of year.ā With this comment I chose to instead return the product and have the buyerās account be credited back and to take my business elsewhere. After leaving the store, I had to explain to my son that as a Black man you will often be identified as suspicious which sometimes leads to being followed or questioned extensively. Thank you Ulta Beauty for this humbling reminder that we are not free from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJan 31st. I want to give a Zero but 2 stars for this store is ONLY for Jane who was INCREDIBLE. SHE helped my son and I find what we wanted. The other employee we interacted were rude and dismissive, condescending and disrespectful. 1st a person with loud magenta hair was asked his opinion on products for my 4yr old sons hair. He answered with a funky attitude then mention that they don't have "kids lines but there are some affordable options...over there"
He clearly judged us as needing to shop in a specific price range as opposed to simply answering the question. I wasn't looking for an affordable product I was looking for the best thing for my kids hairs...
Then as Jane was cashing me out a random woman walked in front of her, forcing her to stop heling me, just to open a drawer and retrieve her personal phone. I said "well that was rude, who was that" She said "my manager" The shock I had to choke down! HOW UNPROFESSIONAL AND DISRESPECTFUL!
So hats off to Jane. Please fire the manager and the other person. Make Jane the manager. She has the personality and professionalism.
Also why are yall out of so much stuff? You need more options for young people and #3...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe store itself is good, there is a good selection and it's always clean. I'm leaving three stars because of my experience getting my hair cut here. I hesitated to leave this review because I don't like "trashing" anybody but I feel I need to make this known as a public service. I had a young man as my hairdresser. I have a bob haircut and was just coming in to get a trim/get it shaped up after it had grown out a bit. He was very kind and I'm sure that with more experience he will be fine, but unfortunately he kind of butchered my layers. I didn't really realize until I got home because when he blow dried it, it was all curly so I couldn't tell, but the layers were cut severely unevenly, with super sharp angles/edges. Tbh it looks like I did it at home with a pair of kitchen scissors. We all get stuck with bad haircuts sometimes and with time and perhaps some touch up work (at another salon) it will eventually not look so awful but I was very disappointed and still very frustrated as I paid for this service and am currently stuck with very awkward,...
