Rau's Country Store — Local services in City of Frankenmuth

I have enjoyed this store for many years but I will not ever spend a cent of my money there again! I was there and saw a religious Table top “Grace”sign that had a sale tag on it for $19.99 marked down from $34.99 so I bought it, I live a couple hours away in the next day when I looked at my receipt I was charged the $34.99 and not the sale price so I called the store and the manager Stephanie who told me that somebody put a wrong sale tag on it I explained to her that the sale tag that was hanging DID say “Grace Sign”, Then she told me it was a different Grace sign. I asked her if she was going to be able to refund the $15 since it was marked incorrectly and she said no they don’t know who put that tag on there as if I did it. I explained to her that the hanging sale tag was wrapped around one of the back prongs, and I don’t feel a customer would have taken The trouble to do that unless they were going to buy it. I asked to speak to the owner, A week later, the owner called me and told me that he could not refund me Because this has happened so much in the last 36 years since he’s owned the building And he stated his employees would never have never put the wrong tag on it! They repeatedly said “Well we don’t know who did it” I am the most honest person ever and would never do such a thing! I was just very shocked because I spent hundreds of dollars a year there and I explained to him I will not return to the store and he’s said OK sorry and hung up so it’s apparently not a big deal to him to keep his customers happy. I work in retail and because it was marked incorrectly they should have gave it to me at the price that was marked. LOOK AT YOUR RECEIPTS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THIS STORE OR YOU MIGHT PAY MORE THAN YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE! (Especially if this has happened so many times like the owner says) As a owner I feel refunding the $15.00 would have been worth saving a 18 year customer but they don’t care if you spend your money there or not! LOVED it! I had called last night (Sat, Dec 5) to inquire about tiny china animals. Susan was VERY helpful! So my husband and drove up this morning and purchased several replacement animals for the Santa, his sleigh, and four little elves, all handmade by my grandparents over 75 years ago! Today Mary helped me and I am SO delighted to report that I was able to replace every animal except a kitten. Thank you SO MUCH for employing WONDERFUL sales associates! Rau's was not what I expected. The main floor is packed with lots of inventory, but the upper floor and basement really look just thrown together. Most items are quite pricey, but we did find a couple of treasures - a magnet and a puzzle. I spoke with one friendly employee, but the others we encountered were quite unwelcoming (the man at the register and the older woman who was vacuuming.) Would I visit again? Maybe.
