I would leave negative stars if I could
I started coming to this gym about a year ago, I can confidently say itās not worth the price you pay. Luckily I have gym pass and in the past, active and fit, so I can go to whatever gym I please, this one just happens to be very convenient for me. That being said, Iāve been to many LA fitnesses and City Sports Clubs, and this one in Yonkers is unfortunately falls far behind the others. I can say about 60% of the gym goers have ZERO gym etiquette. They lack basic common knowledge to put their weights away and clean their equipment. And itās the same bunch of people who do it each and every time. The worst is when they come in groups. The LA fitness in the Bronx has better clientele than this location. That says a lot about how youād expect this gym to be. None of the dumbbells are in order, many are just scattered throughout the gym, sometimes in the Zumba class room, etc, because once again, the people that come here have ZERO basic gym etiquette. Itās so bad that the employees have to use a shopping cart to go around the gym to pick up the weights left behind and return them to the rack. This gym has ONE set of 15lb dumbbells, they are always missing or hidden throughout the gym. Same goes for bars, handles, and ropes. I started brining my own handles because the ones they have are nowhere to be found. And if you do find them, itās gross , old and really should be in the trash. Thereās not enough bars for the benches, which gets frustrating during peak hours.
The facility itself is aging, the gym is only 10 years old I believe but has no significant improvements since theyāve opened. The menās bathroom has about 18 sinks, of those, only half of those work, and the ones that donāt work are the only ones with soap. Paper towels are also hard to find at times. The menās locker room has many lockers without a door. Thereās a handful of equipment that are ā scheduled for serviceā and has been for months. Some donāt have signs, so you only realize when you start the workout. Unlike other LA fitnesses, this one does not have racquetball courts. There used to be a basketball court, but now that is turned into a private training room. Which to me wasnāt a good place to put it considering how underutilized the upstairs portion of the gym is.
The employees at this gym are very nice, and have always been helpful. Although, one time I came 30 min prior to closing and they allow me to enter. I just needed 20 min of cardio after coming from work. This is not specified in my the contract/waiver I signed, unless Iām not looking in the right place.
The cafe is great. the two girls make the drinks very well. The others i donāt feel the same, drinks are never made the same and they seem annoyed when you ask them for a drink.
Overall, if youāre considering this gym, itās a great location, and OK facility. But please note the clientele at this gym really make it an unpleasant experience. Compared to the other gyms in the area, this one is huge and lots of equipment. But blink fitness has a better clientele than this specific location.
To management at this gym, please enforce some rules. NYSC does it so Iām not sure why you canāt. Do better. I donāt expect you to acknowledge this review. š
itās also interesting that they respond to all the āgoodā reviews and donāt say a single thing to the people who leave...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJoined her about 2 years ago after leaving PF on Yonkers ave because it was run down and dirty. At first this was a pleasant change of pace but lately it has been getting more and more run down. The showers are dirty, the bathroom barely has paper towel in machines. I am lucky if I find a soap dispenser with soap in it to wash hands. The sauna in mens room is absolutely horrendous. It seems as though nobody cleans it and sweat just sits in the floor for hours. They need to invest in staff to clean. I am borderline about to cancel membership because of the filth in mens room. There is never any dumbbells in the right place and they just are scattered all over the gym. The energize booth is a 50/50 shot to be open on time at 6am so half the time I donāt get a pre workout if I forget or run out at home. The place needs an overhaul in management asap. If it wasnāt so close to my house I absolutely would not be a member here.
*edit as of 3/13, yesterday I attempted to use the sauna at 6am, I opened the door and was immediately smacked in the face with the most disgusting smell I have ever sensed. the sauna was off and absolutely disgusting. After working out I tried to jump in the shower but there was no lever on the stall I attempted to use, the next stall had no soap dispenser, luckily I brought my own. I washed my hands and shocker, it took me 4 sinks before I found one with soap. Tried to dry my hands and there were no paper towels. On my way out I asked the desk attendant about the sauna, he said that the normal desk employee didn't come in so he couldn't clean it. Confused, I asked why not lock it and put a sign up. He said nobody could cover the desk. As I looked over to two personal trainers walking around, I wondered why one of them couldn't cover the desk for 5 mins to allow the sauna to be locked.
So wait, you mean to tell me when the gym closes at night they dont clean the sauna? smh, unreal
Went there this am and guess what? The sauna was off completely with a sign at the front desk. As I entered the locker room, the door to sauna was wide open and they were cleaning it and the same smell from yesterday was now protruding throughout the entire bathroom. This gym needs new management, it is absolute joke and extremely unsanitary. But again for distance, price point and convenience I will continue to pay my monthly fee until I find a better...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIād like to start by saying any 5 stars review of this gym is a blatant lie. If I could give zero stars I would. Iāve been a member of LA Fitness for over a decade- Iāve been to LA fitness facilities across the country- AZ, FL and many on Long Island. Ridgehill LA Fitness is an ATROCITY. Frankly, Iām surprised health inspectors havenāt shut this place down. I must say, one janitor really tries. He does not stop cleaning, but he is ONE person. Machines are broken, not maintained what so ever. Any pully machine is jagged and not smooth, cushions are shredded or simply out of order. Free weights are strewn across the place. To be honest, I wouldnāt be surprised if someone trips and seriously hurts themselves- if it hasnāt happened already. I literally could not find a single 7,10, or 12lb dumbbell today- NOT ONE. Good luck trying to wipe down a machine since every wipe station is empty. The place literally smells like dirty mop water. The mirrors have hand smudges and finger prints- the same ones have been there since I started going to this location 5 months ago. Not a single person believes in re racking anything, itās astonishing. Iāve never seen a single staff member take the time to help rack weights or do something other than gossip or listen to music upstairs in the front like itās lunch time or something. The only person who does is the older gentleman I mentioned above who cleans and truly tries his best. Managers here will pretend to listen, but nothing changes (no surprise). Today, I couldnāt even find one to speak to about the bathrooms not having a SINGLE paper towel- you should buy a lottery ticket if your bathroom stall has toilet paper available - not to mention 2/10 soap dispensers barely having enough soap to properly wash my hands after really trying my best to get in a workout here. The pool? You couldnāt PAY ME to even step foot in there by how disgusting the lockers are alone. Needless to say, I will be reaching out to corporate, because this is a unsanitary and sad if anyone thinks this gym is ran well. BLINK on Broadway had better maintenance and cleaner facilities. Unfortunately, this gym is the closest to me in order to get a workout in. If I wasnāt grandfathered into LA Fitness I would have cancelled my membership. Do yourself a favor and take your...
