Great gym. Friendly staff. The other patrons all have a good attitude and are good about wiping down their machines after using. I like the machine selection, the place has a good layout and appears clean.
My only complaint is that all but one of the shower heads in the womens locker room have weak water pressure so showers take a long time. Also not enough hooks between the stalls so sometimes the only option is to put stuff on the floor where it will get wet from shower water. I use plastic bags to get around this or wait until someone leaves the shower area and empties a hook. Someone did put a chair in there to help that a little.
Another issue for ME (not a complaint but a warning to others who may care) is how popular the gym is so it's ALWAYS crowded even at 5am. But maybe that's just a testament to it being a good gym. I had to get used to that. People will ask you as soon as you sit down how much more time you need. I usually cant use the machine I want without waiting so dont come in with an inflexible plan. I usually do long full body sessions so I can work with that and just do a different machine until the one I want is available. Can always do free weights but watch out or someone will trip over/bump into you. Sometimes people will hog machines using free weights/body weight excercises next to the machine they are guarding so they can rotate the free weight/bodyweight excercise with use of the machine.
The gym seems mostly clean. The showers always have chunks of hair on the walls and in the drains and the locker room always has hair all over the floor. I notice when I'm stretching. When it first opens at 5am (when I mostly go) it's not freshly cleaned. I went later in the day and same thing. So I'm not sure how often its cleaned or when in the day but the ladies dont clean up their own hair. There's a lot of traffic every day all day and we women lose a lot of hair so that's not surprising to see hair everywhere, I guess. The showers in my college were the same way with the hair. So maybe it's just normal. I wish people would clean up after themselves in public places. It grosses me out a bit.
I did have ONE trainer get a little pushy with me trying to sell his services after I said no several times. I was trying to be polite and not get rude so maybe he saw that as an opportunity. But he had approached me to help while I was stretching out a sore muscle from a previous days workout so people are there to help.
They do put promotions for certain services out there on their social media/website and then not honor them at the club even when you show them the promotion indicating that you are at the correct location and that it had not expired. They told me "you can pay for it, though, its inexpensive" and then actually kept pushing me to pay for it because it was valuable. That bothered me. At that point it wasn't about how affordable it was it was about the principle of the issue. I dont like when companies advertise something to get you in the door and then say they won't do what they advertised but you can pay more. I did still sign up because I had planned on it any way as the place is only $10/month, has good hours and is right next to my office.
They also got me to sign up for the more expensive monthly plan telling me that with the partnership they have with my company the more expensive plan gets a discount on all the extra fees that would make my total annual out of pocket less than if I had signed up for the cheaper monthly plan. I realized after signing the contract that that was false. That's my fault though for not doing my own due diligence. I dont use the extra benefits of the more expensive plan so I wouldnt have gotten...
Read moreI called to cancel my membership in the beginning of March when this whole virus thing started because I was uncomfortable going to the gym. The guy on the phone convinced me to freeze my membership which I went into the club and did. On May 23rd I went in to cancel my membership knowing that I want to go back to the gym a until all of this settles down. the guy at the desk told me that they would still be charging me for may even though they only opened May 18th. When I asked him why he was charging me a whole month membership for 5 days of the month that I could use it he told me that if I stayed with them I would get a partial credit that I can use towards the next month or merchandise. He told me that they did not charge me for April which would make sense because the whole gym was closed during April due to the shutdown. But they did charge me for March. today June 29th I noticed that I have a charge on my account from crunch fitness it was charged on the 24th but due to the covid-19 my online charges appear late. I called and spoke to someone who told me they have no record of me canceling it on the 23rd but do have record that I checked in. So I went into the club to cancel a second time. When I talked to the man at the counter he told me that he has no way to prove that I canceled that day that it looks like I had just checked in and I told him I talked in that day so that the man at the counter that day could pull up my account and cancel it I even signed something. Well the man today told me that there is no record of it and because I'm out of my 30 days that I'll be charged for June July and August. And I signed another cancellation form. he told me that I was up till corporate to decide if they can end my membership "early." He wasn't pleasant and in fact kind of yelled at me telling me that they have no record of me ever canceling only that I checked in. Also I heard another man at the desk talking to a customer saying that it's 6 feet social distancing or if not 6 feet wear mask. Just to let everybody know they are not social distancing there everyone is on top of each other without masks. I understand working out without a mask is hard but the gym could be doing something to limit exposure by adhering by the 6-foot rule. All the squat racks are right next to each other and we're all being used are not 6ft. the treadmills are also being used there was a group of people all right next to each other not in masks but to close. The gym could move machines around and maybe limit access to the machines or block machines off to practice social distancing like other gyms have done. But just to let everybody know there's no social distancing and no real mask policy enforced. also just an FYI I am not the first person this happened to with cancellation issues a friend of mine cancelled in December and was still being charged and the gym again had no documentation that she ever cancelled.
Stay safe.
Update: I appreciate the owner of the gym replying to my review. But my original issue about the cancellation was not addressed. I understand the cancellation policy that I find that says it needs to be 30 days before it gets taken out of my account. My issue isn't the 30 days my issue is that it was supposed to be cancelled May 23rd and it never was and that is why I'm being charged all of these months. So the actual issue isn't the cancellation policy it's that it was supposed to be cancelled and never was. I'm not the first customer this has...
Read moreI go to this gym on occasion to take a Saturday Zumba class because of the instructor. This morning when I went in and checked in the attendant told me that the membership had expired. At the moment I didn’t know why so he wanted to fix it which I totally understand. I asked if we could we fix this after the class. He asked for my drivers license and kept it which I felt a little uncomfortable with. in retrospect he could have just kept my membership card if he was so worry I was scamming a free Zumba class. I went to the class and remembered that I had to recently replaced my debit card due to fraud and didn’t remember to update it with my health insurance which is how I derive my membership with Crunch. Towards the end of the class I noticed that he came into the class so I’m wondering is he coming to arrest me lol. When I went back to the counter I asked to speak with the manager and he happens to be the assistant manager. I tried to explained to him what the issue with my membership was and to tell him how I felt about his approach as a customer. He didn’t want to hear it or cared. He continued to talk over me and could not slow down for a moment to listen. Dear assistant manager good customer service is still critical to retain customers. Taking two minutes to listen and having an attitude like you care about your customer’s feedback will take your career far. Additionally good listening skills might also help you on other areas of your life ;-) while I understand that dealing with disgruntled customers is exhausting it is the career that you have chosen and a little customer service etiquette will assist you in having a better day and deescalate the situation from getting worse and the customer from getting more upset about a minor issue. You will be amazed what simple phrases like “I understand” you don’t even have to admit fault just listen and at least pretend that you care....Tampa Bay has a plethora of gyms and Zumba classes and I’m blessed that my health insurance (which by the way I do pay for it and it’s a benefit from my employer which you tried to implied that’s its a freebie) allows me to enjoy the majority of these other gyms. So I won’t waste my precious time driving 30 minutes to your gym on a beautiful Saturday morning. I’ll take myself to LA Fitness or one of the many other gyms that have Zumba...
