I lived at Merit Manor Apartments for a little over two years. Overall, the best aspects of the apartment complex were the friendly staff and that they were quick to fix maintenance requests.
PROS: The apartment complex was relatively quiet, my neighbors were friendly, and my assigned parking was near my apartment. I liked how dog friendly the complex was, which made it easier to have my two dogs there. I felt safe taking them for walks at all times of the day. I also liked that I had two spacious walk-in closets.
CONS: That being said, my apartment was subpar. Upon moving in there were holes in the carpets, black marks on the kitchen tiles, the toilet would randomly start running every few hours, the painting on the walls were not professionally painted because of paint smears on the kitchen and bathroom cabinets as well as paint stains on the floor, the floors were VERY creaky, and the bedroom window would rattle every time I moved around my room. There were several other issues I had with the apartment throughout the years.
I found the pet deposit for each pet to be ridiculous given the condition of the apartment and how the pet deposit cost more than my own deposit. But in all fairness the other apartments I’ve viewed in the area shared similar rates. Truthfully I did not think the apartment was worth the cost of rent, especially after they increased rent after living there for a year plus the extra pet rent I had to pay as well.
Additionally, I did not agree with the deposit amount that was returned to me after moving out. I had spent several days cleaning the apartment from top to bottom including renting a carpet cleaner from Home Depot to clean the carpet. The apartment looked great upon leaving and I am upset that they took almost half of my deposit (not including pet deposit) to “clean” an already clean apartment. I spent many hours making sure that apartment was in great condition and it felt like a waste of my time to have even bothered cleaning it. I would not have been so thorough in my cleaning had I known they would still take a ridiculous amount of money out of my deposit. The justifications for using some of my deposit seemed unjust and I would argue that some of the items that needed to be replaced was a result of normal wear and tear. To top it off they addressed the check for the deposit to my co-signer and listed him as the primary resident, which was untrue. I was the only one who lived there, the deposit was paid by me and in my name, the rent was paid by me and taken out of my bank account, and I am the one who signed all the paperwork. They were fully aware that the co-signer did not live in the apartment and handle the responsibilities of the apartment. Thankfully I was able to deposit the check into my own bank account. If I had any issues, I would have demanded they send me a new check with the correct name. Even though this worked out for me, I was incredibly irritated by this and found it completely unacceptable.
OVERALL: I think this would be a good place for anyone looking for short term leasing or for those moving into their first apartment. While there are pros to living at Merit Manor, I felt like there were more cons. I wouldn’t live here long term because I think there are better options in the...
Read moreI've been at Merit Manor for 5+ years now and I love the location. It's surrounded by everything you need for shopping, gas, food, and gyms. The area is very quiet, and the trees gives a good amount of shade. Here's my pros and cons.
PROS: The staff is amazing always with a smile. Office manager is always assisting and communicating with any concerns. The maintenance is absolutely punctual on all fixes, and repairs. Pest control: other than a spider here and there, the main rodent: roaches I haven't seen one in my unit in like 2 years which is a definite plus !!!
CONS: being downstairs is horrible when you have a neighbor that cannot sit still especially 1,2,3am in the early mornings, every footstep is heard as the floor squeaks everywhere. The walls are very thin, so you can hear your neighbor snoring like they haven't slept in years. The windows move with movement from upstairs. The electric bill is super expensive in the summer. The major con: smelling cigarettes and Marijuana so strong that I feel like I'm high too and my dog. I thought there was a no smoking policy. Guess not ...
Other than the cons. I'm still here lol .. so it's must be a good place to stay. But kudos to the staff and manager and maintenance. They only follow orders it's the corporate offices that can make these changes for our complex community so I hope you are reading these reviews and understand what you can do to make our...
Read moreWe have lived at these apartments for about six years and when my husband and I first moved in the management and maintenance staff were amazing. Once the head manager left it all went to hell. There were a lot of trashy looking people moving in and no one we knew when we first moved in are working at the complex anymore. We went from a single bedroom to a two bedroom since we had a child and they didn't even think to tell us about the roaches that they had bombed the apartment for. The day we moved our stuff in they popped up and we thought that it would stop, but it got worse and worse. They have bombed our apartment three times since we moved in (April 2013) and they have not improved. We are gonna get as far away as we can once we have the money for a new deposit for...
