I booked an appointment for a new GelX set from 2:15 PM to 4:00 PM on a Wednesday at the end of September with Mari for an important photo shoot. When I arrived, my nail tech, Mari (the owner), was finishing up with another client, which I understood can happen. Unfortunately, my nails weren’t prepped until around 3 PM, and a trainee, who was very nice and gentle, started working on them. The prep took about an hour, and I didn’t get my GelX extensions put on my fingers until after 4 PM.
Mari then took over, and I showed her my inspiration for a stiletto French tip design. She assured me she could execute the look, mentioning her 20 years of experience. I had arranged my day around this appointment and had given myself some slack time as my next errand was to be done at 6pm. I was expecting to be done by 5:30 PM as she stated we would be done by then given that the appointment ran over time.
However, I experienced a significant mismatch between what I wanted and what I received. While Mari got the shape and base color right, the white layer was too transparent on some fingers. When I asked her to fill it in, she increased the thickness of the French tip, instead of just going over the white paint again. She insisted it would look fine after the top coat. Despite my concerns about the increasing thickness of the French tips throughout the appointment, she continued to apply more white paint, claiming the top coat would somehow fix the design issue.
By 7 PM, after three top coats, I expressed my severe disappointment in the work, reiterating that it wasn't what I wanted. When I suggested returning the next day for a redo, Mari insisted on finishing my nails as they were. It was a waste of my time since she knew I was unhappy and she still continued to work on the nails. We could have both saved time than continuing to work on something I wasn’t happy about it.
As I was getting ready to leave, Mari offered to have Dom, an independent contractor, fix my nails. At this point, Mari started with another client that had arrived earlier. I decided to give it a chance because at that point I had nothing to lose. Fortunately, Dom was fantastic! She took the time to remove the polish, redo the design, and ensured I got exactly what I wanted.
I left the salon around 8:30 PM, (over six hours later) but I was pleased with the final result thanks to Dom. I later learned that Dom is only bookable via Instagram, but I would definitely go back to her! Her handle is...
Read moreMari is a thief. 9/14/2025 and I STILL HAVEN'T BEEN PAID! Not even the money owed before I resigned on7/6/2025 including tips owner does not pay it's employees in a timely fashion.
Before we call me a disgruntled employee, just know that I resigned for Non-Payment.
In May she changed the payday from Friday to close of business on Saturday, I signed off on it. Only to be paid on Fridays, Saturdays and sometimes Mondays, I have receipts.
Any event you've seen me work in the evening on a Sunday, was without pay (live music 2/13/2025, intro to new the new Hydration Service and another that I won't name.) We were told it was mandatory and had to be there even though we wouldn't be compensated. There were meetings on Sunday mornings that were mandatory without pay (at least 5 other people can corroborate.)
Breaks and lunches are ignored to fit in clients. Mari would say to me at 12:50 "that you have a client at 1pm, I moved your lunch"
As an employee here for a year, the longest working nail tech, these are my truths, Mari preys upon new / young people just getting in the business so that she can gaslight, manipulate and steal from them ( once took 63% of my tips, when I called her out on it, she kept insisting my check was correct, after showing her adding 63% of my tips to my check, she called herself making it right by giving me a $100.) She never got around to fixing the check prior, just money I've lost. *FUTURE EMPLOYEES * If you want to get paid correctly, log EVERY SINGLE CLIENT. Dates, times, services rendered and amounts. You'll probably still get cheated but you'll have detailed records of your services incase you're ever in the situation like myself (and you probably will be. This is her modus operandi.) That's why I had to started logging ALL my services, dates, times and...
Read moreIm not a high maintenance person but when it comes to a wedding I am willing to do my part to look good. I booked an appt at Nail Behavior only two days before I was going to be in Columbus for the wedding. Another shop had come up in my search but I could not get an appointment, so I was relieved when NB could accommodate me. I needed a Gel polish removal from my toes and a new pedicure as well as finger tips and gel manicure. Way more than I would normally do or spend money on, but like I said, my friends wedding was important. I was greeted by Shaneequa who was my technician all the way through. She took care to make sure I was happy every step of the way. My feet looked great and Shaneequa did an amazing job on my finger nails. The materials they used are great. I left them a little long for the wedding but had no problem trimming them back and filing for after the wedding. A week later they still look like new, no lifting, no feeling like my skin is stuck to them or that they aren't natural. The culture of the shop was so welcoming. The clients were very diverse and the staff appeared happy and engaged happily in what they were doing. If you are going anywhere near Columbus or live there and want to be pampered at a very nice salon, choose Nail Behavior. Plus they have cool house made products for...
