I called ahead about selling used books and was given an overview of the selling process together with what I can reasonably expect. After sorting and bringing in five boxes of children's books/series, I was told that I have to wait an hour in the store before someone could look at them. I asked additional questions about what to expect in terms of a sale price to make sure that the additional time is worth it, and was given a vague but promising answer. Once the cashier went through the books, she offered me $42.50 for 150 books in excellent condition, some of which are brand new and most of which were hardcover (valued at $16-$20/book). I repacked everything and left. I will NEVER go back. The information provided to me on the phone was very misleading and the "offer" made to me was an order of magnitude less than what I was led to believe I would get. BTW, while waiting, I walked around the store and the same books I was selling were being sold at the store for $4 to $8 each. I was offered 28 cents per book. This...
Read moreI came to the conclusion that I like this location better than the original Todos Santa Plaza store. Parking is definitely better, the store layout is better. The only thing holding this store back from 5 Stars is the employees seem less attentive than in the past. While the staff has always treated me well, I have witnessed horrible customer service on their sales floor. Unfortunately both incidents involved an elderly customer. I would remind the Half Price Books staff that, if we are lucky, we all get older and to be patient with customers that require more attention.
I did bring the first incident to the attention of their manager. I don't know what action was taken, and that's none of my business. But when I witnessed the second incident, I felt like maybe nothing was learned from the first incident. I decided not to buy anything that day and left without intervening.
I think they are good people but I'd like to see them...
Read moreGreat used bookstore to buy used books from. Super chill vibes and friendly staff.
Only way the store can stay in business and make money is from buying books back from people and giving them pennies on the dollar for them. The way they come up with the price to buy is weird and confusing and when you ask how itâs done they almost act insulted and then tell you itâs based on popularity and how fast the book might sell. Not on how much the book is worth. It could be a $100 book and they offer you $5. Another book could be $30 and they offer you $10. It makes no sense. Most the time they offer you like $0.25 for a book they will sell for $15.
Selling here is even worse than at GameStop. Would not recommend to sell here unless extremely desperate for $. Donate your books instead someplace that doesnât profit off of them.
Itâs an amazing bookstore other than their book...
