Horrible experience ever in a Five Below…. My son and I were being followed around as we were the only people of color in the store. When we made it self checkout the employee felt the need to grab the hand scanner while I talking to my son trying to decide which graphic tee looked better and begins to scan our items while in our hands. He felt the need to select my form of payment on the screen and the bags but as I looked around none of the other guests that were checking out were being monitored like my son and me or being followed around the store but of course they were not black. As we left I reminded the worker that if he gives us that treatment that is the same treatment all of the customers should receive but again they weren’t black. It is 2024 and racism and prejudice's of people of color is a shame especially when I’m there to enjoy my day and PAY my hard earned money in this establishment. This is first time I have experienced this type of treatment in a five below but I must say Concord Five Below do better and train your employees and harassment...

It's the type of stores that sell stuff that other stores have overstock of or couldn't sell so if you see something there you want, get it then and there because it most likely will not be there on your next visit. It can make it fun when you find unique items at a good price or just a waste of a trip. They also dont have anybody at the one cash register that they have manned. In other words, it's a do it and find it yourself type of store. No one asked could they help us and the only option is self checkout. The savings are that great to warrant such a do it yourself approach but it's the way we as consumers have allowed stores to operate: we spend our money, they raised prices and either provide bad customer service or in the case of this store, none at all. There are very few stores that customer service is even to be expected at anymore but again we the consumers, including myself, continue to go to these stores, reinforcing the bad behavior. Read moreItems were kind of a mess to find, the shirt area is chaotic and the manager (didn't get her name) accused my wife of clogging the toilet and refused to let me use the other one when we both clearly saw a woman and child come out of the "clogged toilet" and didn't report any clog.
We were also not allowed to scan our own items, even though the people at the other register were allowed to. The reason I was given was people were stealing a lot and the lady had to scan our stuff, indirectly accusing my wife and I of being shoplifters.
The floors were clean and the prices were right but that's about it.
I recommend you get in and out as fast as possible if you have to come to this location to avoid any sort of being treated less than a paying customer.
Some retraining is in order for the store manager (Gina) and staff here on customer service and to avoid making customers...
