Recently, after a high school event at this center, a HISTORICAL high school event. There was a review made that suggested that people shouldn't bowl here because there was no seating. Have you been to a bowling tournament before? They have string pins. Do you understand the evolution of pretty much any sport? The center would not allow outside food or beverages due to money grubbing. Let's not make this about bowling. Go to your favorite steakhouse, and when you order, let them know that you only want the steak, that you brought your own sides. Go to an amusement venue, or don't go because of seating, and you will have to not only stand in line to play your favorite game, but you will have to purchase their eats and drinks. This is not money grubbing, and this is not denying the customer of having something. This was indeed a high school bowling tournament at a venue that to stay in business must comply with laws and regulations due to the possession of a liquor license authorized by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, and the State Health Department. I know this is a long review, but the bowling industry is something that is very dear to my heart and important to me and has been for 50 years. This is not a venue supported by your tax dollars and even then I don't believe that you can take outside food and/or beverages to a high school football game, volleyball game, basketball game, or a wrestling meet.
Oops. While on my soap box, I almost forgot. Highland Bowl is a very well ran bowling center with courteous staff. It has always in the past been a great center to bowl in and with the addition of String Pins, I am confident it will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been to this place about six times in the past eight months, and four out of those times have been unpleasant experiences. The first two being because of the staff, and the other two being because of customers. The two times Iāve gone where Iāve had issues with the employees is for the same reason. There has never been a rule stating that we canāt use the light green balls, however, both times my friends that Iāve gone with have used them, a employee will come by and take it from our ball rack without telling us why they were taking it. That seems passive-aggressive to me. If itās an issue then they should inform us instead of just taking it from us. The other issue is with the customers who go there who take everything way too seriously and donāt seem to like seeing people having a good time and bowling just for fun. One older lady came up to my fiancĆ© and I and tried to lecture us about how itās ācommon curtesy to let the people next to you bowl first before you goā when we were just having fun. We werenāt doing some competitive bowling league, we were just having fun so her rude remarks to us were completely uncalled for. And when I went back with some friends today, I had a customer wishing pain on one of my friends by saying āI hope you drop that ball on your footā as he was using a light green ball. I donāt tolerate that kind of behavior so I told him to not be mean and to mind his business. Itās people like that who make me not want to come back to this bowling alley. Thereās just been too many unpleasant...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHighland Bowl, being the one of the only bowling alleys in the entirety of Corvallis, is a great place to hang out and bowl. But not eat, as their food, as it is with most bowling alley is not good. Furthermore, there is also the MU Basement, which is phenomenal in it's bowling alley and extensive arcade/pool/air hockey area. Having a party? Go to the MU. So that is why Highland Bowl gets bumped down a little. Despite my complaining,. I have absolutely nothing against this place. It has a great location on 9th Street and is a good bowling experience. If it was just for the bowling it would be 5 stars. But, because there are better options in town, and it's other activities (food and arcade) are subpar at best, it can't rate very highly.
Anyhoo, it is surely a consideration for that one Saturday night when you are bored and want to do something fun with a friend or your family. I recommend this...
