Ordered two drinks and wanted 2 carrot-apple muffins but was told there was only one left-- but they had a banana chocolate chip or blueberry. Said we would take the one carrot muffin and one banana chocolate chip. Got to the window to pay and were handed our two drinks and one CHOCOLATE chocolate chip and one blueberry muffin. When I questioned it she said "we're out of carrot". Accepted the change thinking we'd try something different , but really wish I had handed them back because they both were so dry we could have choked on them, tasted like they were at LEAST a day old. Also don't know why they didn't ask us when we got to the window instead of assuming we would just accept two substitutes. I don't usually do bad reviews unless something is really bad, but this was really bad. To Coffee Culture's credit, we decided to go to the drive-thru at Timberhill in search of the elusive and irresistible carrot-apple muffin. They had one left and, after telling them what we had tried to swallow at the last place, she handed it over for free with apologies. Very classy customer service there. We usually love Coffee Culture but I think I'm done with the 9th Street location. Have had two bad muffins in the past and that's enough bad muffin experience for my lifetime. They do usually have very friendly staff though and a good Americano.... just to end it on a...
Read moreCoffee Culture has been my go-to shop since moving here about 6 years ago, and the annex has been my spot for 4 of those. In general, I think they pull the best shots in town. They don’t taste burnt or over-extracted like I tend to get at other places. For the annex specifically, it has the benefit of being away from the crazy foot traffic that the Kings location sees. And with the drive-thru, too, the lobby here tends to be more mellow since so many people get it on the go. This makes it great for getting together with a friend or getting into some good reading or studying. Beyond all that, though, it’s the people here. The whole annex crew is killin’ it. They’re oftentimes the first people I see, usually on my way to work (and they might see me again by the mid afternoon for my lunch). And I have yet to have an experience where I’m not leaving with a smile on my face and a good cup of coffee, which is always the preferred way to...
Read moreI greatly enjoy the Coffee Culture coffee. The ONE annoying thing is being put in the position of giving a tip for work that is well paid. There have been studies done on how annoying this is to many people. No tips for McDonalds or Burger King. But, someone makes a coffee and you are supposed to give an extra 20% or so. Today, coffee already costs too much and runs as high as $5+ for a large.
Tipping in coffee shops is not really a tip, but rather forced charity. Not being asked is the better way to get a nice tip because it is a thank you. When someone spins the register to challenge the customer with tipping options it comes off as a demand.
I surprised a guy struggling to pay his grocery bill the other day. It truly helped him and he needed the help. Spontaneous giving feels good when you...
