I wrote this experience down and filed it in a to-do folder that was misplaced until last week. I realize that some time has passed between then and now but the way I was treated had a lasting impression on me; so much so that when my OB recently suggested that I select a primary care provider associated with Valley Medical Center's Covington Primary Care Clinic (located within the same building), I was quick to decline. I went to this Urgent Care clinic near Valentine's Day in February of 2016, after finding out a couple of weeks prior that I was pregnant. I had started bleeding rather heavily at work and feared I could be miscarrying. When I checked in I told the receptionist what was going on and asked her if they would be able to run whatever tests were necessary to figure out what was going on? She assured me they would take good care of me and I filled out the necessary paperwork, waiting to be called back. I was joined by my daughter's father and after about 35-45 minutes we were called up by a male nurse. He never introduced himself, spoke in an exceptionally rude tone, and after we arrived in the examination room he asked me, "Aaand who is this; the Uber driver?" gesturing to my daughter's father. I was absolutely infuriated but tried to keep myself calm and corrected him stating that "his name is Devin and he is the father of my child. We are here to make sure our baby is okay." I explained that I had started bleeding at work. He proceeded to check me in and then we waited another 30 minutes for a doctor to come. The doctor was a bit more formal but she didn't offer to examine me or run any other tests to check the status of my child. She announced that, based on my symptoms, I was likely having a miscarriage. She told me flatly that I should "just go home and brace myself for it." She followed that up with, "If you want a second opinion you could always go to any other Emergency Room and they will have access to all of the things you are requesting." I was both shocked and completely bewildered at the lack of empathy or concern for my well-being and that of my (at the time) unborn child. I gritted my teeth and explained that I had asked the receptionist about that exact thing and she had assured me that because there was a Pediatric doctors office right next door they would have everything they needed right there. I left this appointment feeling hopeless and like I had completely wasted my time waiting. I was pissed that my insurance would be paying for a visit that gave me nothing but a head and heartache. That day I made a decision to go against what the doctor suggested and to believe (in my heart) that my child would be okay. I made a follow-up appointment with my OB the following week and as it turned out, I had a perfectly healthy pregnancy and my daughter was born October of 2016. So much for the diagnosis of having a...
Read moreI have gone here quite a few times with my kids since their normal primary care doctor will not see them if they have any single symptom that relates to Covid. Obviously I keep coming back because I’ve felt like they always take good care of my children. But this last visit solidified it for me. They truely exceeded all my expectations. My daughter is 2 and has had a tough time with reactive airway disease (which is basically asthma but she can’t be diagnosed with asthma at her age) for almost a year now. My daughter tested positive for Covid the beginning of July but had a lingering cough that was concerning and then developed a fever so I took her in. They got all her vitals and then the X-ray tech came in to take us to take so X-rays. however I also had my 3 year old son with me who couldn’t go into the X-ray room with me. As we were trying to figure out what to do a nurse who had just grabbed her purse and was getting ready to leave stopped and asked my son if he wanted to go pick out some stickers with her. When I came back from the X-ray room she was in the exam room with my son coloring on the exam table paper with him. My son had a huge smile on his face as he showed me all his stickers and the coloring they did: The fact that she was on her way out and stayed to help me with my son was the sweetest thing ever.
My daughter saw Dr Mehta. Who was very attentive and kind and made my daughter feel very comfortable. The next day after seeing him he even called HIMSELF to check on her. This blew my mind. I’ve worked with so many Providers in a primary care setting who only see maybe 20 patients a day who wouldn’t call patients themselves to check in on them. Normally they would have a RN do this task and have them relay the message back to them. So the fact that an urgent care provider who probably sees well over 20 patients a day took the time to call and check on her himself just made us feel like we were truely cared about.
Thank you to all the wonderful staff from beginning to end. We had a...
Read moreI have been using this urgent care for about 14 years for various reasons. Chronic migraines being one of them. I would frequently come in for a toradol shot as it's not a narcotic, and worked better than tylenol or aleve. The last few times I've been in, twice I had Dr. Mehta. He refused to give me the shot because I'm allergic to ibuprofen. I told him I've had the shot from this clinic multiple times in the past, pull up the record. He looks in the computer, lies to my face, and says theres no record of that and sent me away. I was there twice in that same week because that migraine lasted 8 days. The second time I went in, I was hoping for a different provider. Nope, Dr. Mehta again. Again told no shot. Wound up at my primary care dr for the shot.
Most recently, went back to the UC for another migraine on 2/25/21. I saw Gurvinder Dhillon, ARNP. She was completely worthless. Told me I couldn't have the shot because I was taking the same medications I have been taking for years, and it might cause a reaction. Literally, the same medications every other time they have given me the shot at that clinic, and it might cause a reaction. I said, so you aren't going to do anything for the pain. She said no, just keep doing what you're doing. If that was working, I wouldn't have wasted my time going there in the first place. I got billed 102.59 for them to check vitals and tell me to keep taking tylenol. She was completely worthless. Wound up going back to my primary care dr for the shot.
And here I sit with another migraine. I'll tell you what... I'd rather risk dying of a brain aneurysm than to go back there and ask them for help for my migraine. What a joke.
4 stars given because they are wonderful in every other area like acute injury, illness, asthma issues. Dr. Nijjar is absolutely amazing. If you need a PCP, and he's accepting new patients, I highly recommend him. Awesome...
