Don't fall for the balloon pop promotions, it's a bait and switch scam
I have purchased several firearms, fishing rods, lures, camping equipmentn and a ammo (when it was affordable at this place, I buy online with another company now which is about 2/3 the price) and I used to take advantage of some specials and promotions.
On 2/22 /25 I attended the balloon pop promotion in hopes of receiving one of the deep discounts. As we waited outside for an hour, an associate came out and told everyone the rules are you must purchase all of your items first and then they will pop your balloon to see how much of a discount credits you will receive back. When asked if more items can be added to the purchase they said no or if we can see how much of a discount we recieve before they complete the transaction, they said no. You have to purchase everything first.
Half of us in line immediately left.
What a scam
The flyer and email I received does not state this at all. It simply says guests would receive a balloon upon entry and club members will recieve two and the discounts are inside the balloon. How do you know what you want to buy if you dont know how much of a discount you will receive. Typical bait and switch from a company that will soon go under.
This used to be an ok location to purchase equipment, firearms, etc. but it's has really gone down hill and this last promotion was the final nail in the coffin for me to completely switch to the online retailers I have been using. They are cheaper and don't play bait and switch...
Read moreI came to this store looking to get one of the DPMS AR-15 platform rifles they had on sale. My dad went with me because he was also interested in the rifle. The guys at the counter (I can’t remember their names) were very rude and not super helpful, and seemed very uninterested in assisting us. But that’s not even what I’m worried about. Let me preface this by saying that I do live out of state. However, I’m a licensed CHP holder, and was in the military at the time. I’m also a CHP instructor, that’s important for later. They told me it was against store policy to not sell guns to anyone not living in the state, or the bordering states (which I’ve never heard of). I then asked if they could just send it to an FFL in Nebraska, no again (don’t know why this would be a problem either). Knowing the federal statutes as well as I do, I know that if you are immediate family of a person, you can legally purchase a firearm for that family member, and people that are not restricted on gun ownership (felons). The guy at the counter tries to tell me that my dad can’t buy it for me because it would be a straw purchase (false, I’m a direct family member and not a restricted person). They refused to listen to reason, even though the law is black and white. It simply amazed me at the level of ignorance, attitude, and poor customer service. Overall, extremely frustrating situation, and we definitely will no longer support this store, or any of the field and streams if this is the way they treat people that actually know what they’re...
Read moreI arrived at this sportsman’s wearhouse location later in the evening and I realize people want to get home and tend to their families. I arrived at this sportsman’s wearhouse at 930pm ( the store closes at 10). By 951 I decided I was going to purchase 2 guns. (Which totaled $3200 by the way). When I went to make my purchase I was told by the manager of the store that I had to make my selection with 15 minutes to spare because the registers shut down at the store by 10 and I need 15 minutes to clear the paperwork.
As I walked out of the store I asked the lady at the checkout if they could hold the register open for a few minutes and she told me that would not be a problem so I asked her if she could page to the gun counter and ask the gentleman we were working with if that would be okay and she told us that the manager was not going to wait 6 more minutes to process our $3200 transaction.
I manage a retail store and stay late at least twice a week to ensure my customers satisfaction. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had trying to spend my hard earned money and will not be spending my hard earned money at any sportsman’s wearhouse location from this point forward and corporate should replace this manager with someone that is more customer oriented and will look out for the best interest...
