This review is on the reflection on one employee, not the store. This happened a few years back, about 5 years ago actually and was one of the reasons why I stopped playing yugioh.
I've been playing Yugioh ever since the beginning. I remember my dad getting me a starter deck kiba blue eyes, the 1st one. I remember going into Shinders that was selling Dark Magician LOB 1st edition for $60. I remember opening a booster pack of Metal Raiders and pulling out Kazejin from one of the packs. All this time I played with my friends in the school bus and with my brothers. Yugioh was an off and on thing after 2010. I would rarely go into the card shop such as this one and Dreamers vault to play against strangers. I would usually only go there to play against my buddies and to hang around. I played it casually and never took the game seriously. I stopped playing around 2015.
Then one year after that I swept the dust off my trading binder, my deck box and hit to this table top tournament with a friend to get him into playing. At this point, I was almost giving up on Yugioh because of how the game became so boring. Your opponent taking 10 minutes going through their decks, special summoning everything, billions of effects activating, this and that, OTK. I was almost done with the game. The only thing that's holding me was the sense of ""community"" and my friend. He wanted to play so I decided to help him out. I'm not going to name any names. I walked in and saw the same guy who I saw everywhere in Minneapolis in any card shop. He was working behind the counter. I greeted him "Hey, I remember you! You were at "this and there" and I saw you playing." He looked towards me holding something with his hands (I guess cards or counting something) and said in a elitist tone "Well duh these places aren't too far from each other. What do you think?" (He said something in those lines.) I didn't said a word to him. I just stared at him with a smile for a few awkward seconds and my friend said to me "Let's get out of here."
That's when I completely gave up on the game. I don't have my cards anymore. I sold it. It's all gone. I would have quit yugioh eventually and I'm glad I did before pendulum summoning became a thing lol
I'm not sure if he still works there, but you know...
Read moreI can't begin to fathom how this ended up happening. There was a lorcana drafted event for Aug. 31 boasting a 16 max player limit. It was like that since Friday (to my knowledge) but could have been earlier. I come in 20 minutes before the tournament to then see it's been reduced to 8 players and apparently regardless of when you signed up on ravens burger, it was first come first serve on their site which seems counter productive (why even use the ravensburger play hub then?). Now, granted, I wanted to pay in store so I waited until I got there so there would be no hiccup with my payment. I had never been to the store before and wanted to dot my i's and cross my t's. However, the reason for the cut was due to a supply issue (which I totally understand don't get me wrong) but I've been seeing unboxings up to 2 weeks prior to pre release. I checked the hub at 12pm just to make sure I still wanted to go (16 player slots, no notice of a first come first serve system). So in 2 hours and 35 minutes, they realized only then they had a stocking issue...
Waste of time and I wish I could be reimbursed for traveling out there to give them a shot because that's not only improper, it's down right moronic. I'm sure they didn't receive the boxes moments ago or were waiting for more t mins before the event. Things could have been communicated better but...
Read moreI enjoy putting out honest reviews for businesses. I was in the area decided to come by to see the selection. No sign for the shop out near the parking, but not a big problem. Shop had a tournament at the time of visit, nice to see everyone in masks. Not too many product, but understandable right now. No one was at the front of the house, so I actually had to interrupt someone to ask who runs the store, since I was interested in buying some product. I got pointed to the person who ran it. He was playing in the tournament, it seemed, and was actually sitting in front of me when I came in. Another person that was already in the shop and myself were waiting for service at the front. I don't recall what he exactly said, but it was along the lines of "that we were going to have to wait a while". It was really disappointing to see what was a priority for him. I love being able to support local businesses at this struggling time, but I didn't wait to see how long he was going to take, leaving promptly after. I think I was more surprised...
