I decided to update my review as I hope someday that the clergy reads it. When I first moved to Dallas in 2013 I immediately looked for the most orthodox Catholic Church that i could find and found Mater Dei and St. Thomas Aquinas. Although I love the Tridentine Mass, I didn't want to limit myself to only attending an extraordinary Mass. I had recently gone through an awful and heart breaking divorce as my spouse left me for someone else and took my 10 year old autistic son with her. I had just moved from Biloxi Mississippi to Texas to be near some family. I immediately signed up for the Catholicism series at St. Thomas, I believe was on either Tuesday or Wednesday nights. One of the first nights I attended , I was talking with two women and one asked me why I didn't attend the parish in my own area (North Dallas). When I explained that I wanted to attend a conservative Catholic parish she said, "Well the Deacon at St. Rita's is conservative." From that point on neither of those women spoke to me again. The gentleman who headed up this Catholicism series (A layman) barely spoke to me, although his wife seemed welcoming at first. After the meeting there were potlucks and I sat by myself as nobody came up to even say hello. I'm not a shy person and I make friends easy. After a few weeks of this I got up one night and walked out of the meeting not to return except on occasion for Mass. This was the worst experience at a Catholic Church that I have ever had. It's clear St. Thomas does not want anyone who doesn't live in the area nor those who are divorced. I could not in good conscience recommend...
Read moreAt a recent service at this Catholic church I was surprised by the way communion was distributed. Please note, this is not a criticism of those involved, but rather a concern about the deviation from traditional Catholic practices. During the service, only laypeople were distributing communion, with the priest remaining seated at the altar. Traditional Catholicism emphasizes the priest's role in administering communion, symbolizing their intermediary position. In comparison to the Tridentine Catholic Mass, where reverence to God is meticulously upheld, the Novus Ordo Mass might benefit from reevaluating decisions to ensure alignment with our faith and traditions, preserving the sacredness of the Eucharist in...
Read moreWent to a very traditional catholic wedding for a beautiful conservative couple. The wedding was absolutely beautiful in every way. The staff handled the wedding with such perfection and care. I was raised baptist however it was enlightening to experience the sacred steps of a wedding through a Catholic perspective.
Additionally, this is also very dear and sincere to my heart as this was a blended wedding (bride and her family is Pilipino and the groom and his family Irish and Italian).
The cathedral itself was exquisite in every way possible! From the long walk way down the isle to the massive piano in the ceiling.
ProTip: this church ⛪️ had an stunbing garding leading into a beautiful...
