The check-in process, parking, and receptionists were amazing, but once you get into the waiting room, run or be wary. I saw Dr. Laura and went through a lot of tests, and at first, I thought with the number of tests I had to do that they were being through with everything since my vision was starting to become blurred and I couldn't see anything no matter what I did or what glasses I used. However, after all those tests she then stated she saw my optic nerve was swollen, and full of fluid and that it was not her expertise. Then she started getting snappy with me whenever I asked any questions. It almost seemed like she didn't want me to ask any questions which is stupid because I need my eyes and so I am going to ask as many questions as I can think of to make sure I understand why my eyes aren't working like they should. I will give her the benefit of the doubt and say she might have been tired since she had been dealing with me from 11 am to 3 PM even though most of that was me doing all the tests she wanted me to do. Anyway, I moved on with her recommendation which was to see a neurologist. However, in her report, she stated I had fluid in my head. Not that she believed I had it, but that I actually had it which I found out is something different. I then had to spend close to $2000 on an MRI of my head and eyes that involved them injecting dye into my body. The MRI did not show what Dr. Laura said she saw. In fact, it was all normal. So then I had to spend close to $1000 to do a spinal tap. A spinal tap is where the doctor sticks a needle into your spine and withdraws fluid. It has to be done in a hospital and you have to be on bed rest for 24-48 hours so I missed a day of work for it. The results? No sign of anything close to what Dr. Laura saw. So thank you for sending me down a rabbit hole of stress, time, and money for something you said you saw but three doctors and two tests couldn't find. Let's talk about their billing practice. They billed my insurance three times. One claim was denied so they resubmitted the bill which is fine. Insurance can be a pain in the butt. What is not fine is triple charging me for the same thing. When I told their billing team about it I was told they would look into it. Awesome! Two months later no response so I asked about it. They knocked off almost $70 and said pay us or we will send it to collections. Now I find out they have been hacked and people may have gotten my information like my social security number, medical information, health insurance information, prescription information, and documents/images, ETC. Edited to respond to Texas Retina's reply: I have already spoken to three of your customer care team members about this and will not be contacting you again. I am mentally exhausted dealing with your company. My review was posted so others can be aware that what happened to me may happen to them. I sincerely hope it doesn't though.

I was referred to Texas retina from my ophthalmologist at Austin retina as they have a little more experience with my condition. It was a long drive, but it was worth it, and everybody here was very professional and knew what they were doing. The wait was a little bit long after they had taken all the photos of my eye, but that’s pretty typical. The retinal specialist that I was referred to, Ashkan Abbey, was excellent. You listened carefully to my situation and was perfectly willing to do everything you could to work around my limitations and condition. I highly recommend both Texas retina and Dr. Abbey. The location is pretty convenient, although I got a bit lost, but that’s just because I’m not so familiar with downtown Dallas. The clinic is just off the highway and the parking is on the east side of the building, in a covered parking garage, which opens directly into the lobby. There’s another retinal clinic in the same building, which is a little confusing but once you park, just walk to the north end of the parking lot and it’s right in front of you. Update. I wish I could give Dr. Abbey and this retina clinic 10 stars. Unfortunately the surgery that I need is brand new and their surgical site has not been approved to do it yet so I was forced to look elsewhere at other retinal clinics. This allowed me to see the operations at different clinics around the country. Oh my god. Most of them are a complete nightmare, and the ones that are good are still not as good as Texas retina. I’m still hoping maybe they can get approval for this surgery soon. If not, I will probably have to get it someplace else but if I need anything in the future, this is going to be my first choice for sure.

I tried to make my child an appointment here and was told the pediatric retina specialist wasn’t taking new patients outside nicu patients and referrals. I saw Dr. Lori Dao who said based on her findings she wanted to refer him here as Dr. Laura is the only pediatric retina specialist. I get a text from the this office saying to call and schedule an apt. I’m met with the same rude receptionist I spoke to last time who put me on hold for 15 minutes and said she’s not taking new patients. Then why text me to call and schedule an apt? Who else am I to see if she is the only pediatric retina specialist in DFW AND a well respected pedi ophthalmologist referred me to her? Must be nice to pick and choose who you want to help. But I bet if it was your child it would be different.

This place is horrible-very disorganized. It’s impossible to get a response to your questions timely if at all. My Stepmom was supposed to be scheduled for surgery. We’d been told authorization was needed from the PCP before the surgery could be performed. I spent a week trying to get them to send the authorization form to her doctor. When they proceeded with scheduling without the approval, I called to try and get the details of how that could be, and to see if we were assuming it would be approved. If so, I could start to coordinate transportation and after care needs on our end. During that week despite countless calls and messages to the online portal (also a joke) I had to call and ask to register a complaint with the Office Manager. This person didn’t seem it necessary to speak to me. Instead they told the front desk associate to send an urgent message to the scheduler. It was while on that call that I’d finally received a reply to my last portal message from 2 days earlier. I was told the scheduler was off that day and that they were the only one who could assist. She went on to say they usually only inform you of the time of your surgery the day before. I was astounded. Although we all are available to help our Stepmom or any other family member, we still have lives, jobs and families of our own. We need to be able to schedule ahead of time in case we need to make alternate arrangements. Most people need more notice than the night before. I’m still waiting for a call back from the scheduler since there is not a single other person in that office...
