Timer for the first time on a Monday afternoon on Labor Day around 4 PM. Parker in the lot - no valet. Place was pretty empty, but it was late afternoon. No happy hour offered.
Chips are made in-house & very crunchy; on the thicker side. Salsa has good flavor - more blended texture instead of chunky. I’m not a fan of mole, so I can’t comment on that.
El Benito - Fruity, fresh, & sweet. Not bubbly. Kind of like a raspberry grapefruit lemonade. Strong - I got a buzz after 1/3 drink (on an empty stomach).
La Carolina - Pretty Good. My husband is very particular on margaritas & he said this one is pretty good. Strong.
Doce Queso - Very creamy & good flavor. Pairs well with the chips. Spinach is chopped adequately & not too big. Evident artichoke pieces. Stayed relatively fluid even at the end of the meal.
Gulf shrimp tacos - Large tortillas. Shrimp is charred & Smokey. A touch overcooked. White rice is nice & fluffy. Coleslaw - not mayonnaise based; light. More veggie taste.
Norteñas - I completely forgot to ask for flour tortillas since I typically don’t like corn tortillas, but the corn tortillas were surprisingly ok. Corn tortillas have a surprising amount of spring to it - not mushy like most corn tortillas after they get wet. Spanish rice - Full flavor. Savory & very flavorful. Probably a lot of butter & fat, but delicious. Chili con carne - Reminds me more of regular Texas chili - more beans than meat. Refried beans - average.
Overall, this place was pretty good. Service was good - our waitress was very nice & respectful. All the food had good flavor. Price is reasonable - one appetizer, two alcoholic drinks, & two entrees came out to be ~$75. I’d recommend & I’d come...

My wife and I recently moved back to Dallas and live near Doce Mesa, off of Central Expressway and Walnut Hill. During our first month, amid the chaos of unpacking, we found ourselves at Doce Mesa more than once a week. It became our go-to: sit at the bar, order two entrees, enjoy a margarita, and head out. We got to know several of the bartenders by name (David, Eduardo, Eddie, and Gastone). They are all friendly and helpful.
The food has been solid. However, on a recent visit, we were significantly overcharged. We were surprised to see an extra charge for hot sauce and a full shot charge just for a splash of Grand Marnier in a Top Shelf margarita (something we’d never encountered before, despite multiple identical orders). In a rush, we paid and left without contesting it.
A few nights later, we returned and brought up the charges. The bartender insisted the extra fees were policy, especially the hot sauce charge and the splash being treated as a full shot. We explained that we’d never been charged that way before, and he argued with us before storming off. Thankfully, a manager (we believe) soon stepped in, took our order, and our dining experience returned to normal ... no extra charges, no issues.
Our only complaint with Doce Mesa is the overcharging on our dinner bill, and the bartender arguing with us when we inquired about it. We’ve enjoyed the food, the staff, and the overall vibe, but this kind of stuff leaves a bad taste.
We’ll be back, but next time, we’ll be reviewing our receipt a little...
Read moreMy mom and I came around 1 on a Tuesday, the resturant wasn't busy so we were seated promptly. The service was okay, everyone was matter of fact at straight to the point. The food was okay, I felt like what we ordered lacked flavor and didn't meet the expectations set by the ambiance, and classy look of the resturant. We were only here for lunch so we ordered the guacamole and their appetizer plate. The guacamole was 15$ for a small portion, it was plain with nothing mashed in except the avocado, it came with a side sauce which was sweet and spicy and the main flavor component. The sauce was tasty but I feel for 15 dollars the portion should have been larger, or the guacamole should have more mixins. The chips that came with it were the same ones served at the table, but they werent fresh I watched our waiter grab them from under a heatlamp. The appetizer plate we also ordered was just okay. It's temperature was just warm, meaning that it got cold quickly. Everything was cooked well but it was bland and lacked seasoning. What i found odd was the queso served with it was artificial in flavor, it was most likely not house made but I could be wrong. I felt like it was priced fairly as it had a good amount of food. I would only recommend coming here if it's convenient for you or if you want to...
