Avoid if you are a business traveler – sketchy billing
Let me preface by saying that I have never left a one-star review for anything in my life, I am not a Karen. However, my experience with this hotel has been so frustrating and unprofessional; that I feel like I must leave this review.
About me: I am a business traveler/platinum Bonvoy member, my company’s HQ is in FL and I have stayed at this property MANY times. Sometimes for weeks at a time.
Sketchy billing practaces: Two weeks after my last stay which ended on 12/13, I received an email stating “thank you for your stay on 12/27” with a receipt attached. The receipt said they charged my company card for “valet” on the 27th for $72.49. However, I did not stay at the hotel on that date, as my last stay ended almost 2 weeks before. Thinking that this must be a mistake, I called the hotel to get an explanation. The manager I spoke to said that this charge was for dry cleaning service during my last stay. I asked why was this labeled valet if it is for dry-cleaning, she said she didn’t know. I also asked why this wasn’t add to my bill from when I was actually there, she didn’t have an explanation. What they did do was, OPENED A RESERVATION IN MY NAME WITHOUT MY CONSENT to bill me for something that they forgot to add to my original bill. On top of that, they coded it incorrectly as valet, which is also super shady.
I cannot have nonexistent hotel stays with incorrectly coded bills appear on my company expense report. When I told this to the manager, and that they needed to reverse the charge; she said “we can’t do that”. I then reached opened a ticket with Marriott customer service, who said that the accounting department from this property will reach out to me within 3-5 business days…..which was two weeks ago, and I still haven’t heard from them. They are sorely mistaken if they think I am just going to go away. Hence this review. On a side note, they also coded the bill from my actual stay wrong as well. I had three charges on the same day for “valet” that totaled over $150, I only have one car.
General Incompetence: Not only did they screw up charging me for my dry cleaning, but they also screwed up the dry cleaning itself. I went down there on Sunday morning and asked if they do weekend dry-cleaning (which is rare, but thought I should ask) to my surprise, the front desk agent said yes. So, I dropped off my clothes. When I went to pick them up that evening, I learned that they don’t do weekend laundry and that I could pick them up on Monday. Which was mildly annoying, but whatever. Come Monday, I went to pick them up only to find out that they have no record of “dry cleaning”. Which means it was lost. I didn’t end up getting it until after 10P that evening, which was annoying as I would have liked to have gone to bed before that time.
Long story short, it’s a beautiful, brand new property that is unfortunately...
Read moreI was in town working at the Miami Formula 1 race. I came back to the hotel after a long day of work on Saturday, May 7 to find a party going on in the event space on floor 3. I was in room 337. I was very tired and wanted to go to bed. Once I was ready for bed around 10:00PM the party was still going on - I could clearly hear the music in my room and there were people changing clothes in the hallway for the fashion show part of their event. I called the front desk to ask about when the event would be over and they assured me security was upstairs trying to close the event since it was scheduled to close at 10:00PM. I called again at 10:15PM since there was no change by that time and I was told the same thing. I called again at 10:30PM since there was no change by that time and I was told the same thing. I called again at 10:45PM since there was no change by that time and I was told the same thing. I called again at 11:00PM since there was no change by that time and I was told the same thing. Finally, at 11:15PM the music turned off and the people from the event made their way out - more than an hour after I started calling and more than an hour after I wanted to go to bed. Booking events on a floor with guest rooms past 8:00PM is unreasonable and unacceptable. Shame on your events team for scheduling this event. Shame on the General Manager (or whoever was in charge that night) for allowing the event to go past its schedule ending time. I highly suggest that events are not booked on guest room floors past 8:00PM - you won't do that because you care more about the money made on those events than you do about the comfort of your guests. I also highly suggest that the Event / Sales team is required to communicate their event schedules for events taking place on guest room floors to the front desk so that the team at the front desk can communicate that schedule to guests checking in. At check in I was asked if I wanted to be close to an elevator, or if I wanted to be close to the pool, or if I wanted to be close to the stairs - all questions related to my comfort. Since there was an event space on the floor I was put on I should have been told that there was an event space on that floor and that there was an event schedule until 10:00PM on one of the nights I was there. I would have never agreed to a room on that floor had I known there was an event scheduled past 8:00PM in the event space...
Read moreAs a Marriott Bonvoy member, I was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. 1) No one cleaned or refreshed our room for the duration of our 3 night visit. Our trash wasn't emptied either. We had our baby, so we had dirty diapers collecting in our room. We saw the house keeper on our hall on several occasions, but she never cleaned our room. We had to call the front desk each night for new towels and washcloths. I told the front desk clerk that no one cleaned our room and he didn't acknowledge what I said, just advised me that someone would bring the towels. One day I was standing by the elevator when I saw the house keeper knock on our door as if she was going to clean, the elevator came so I never knew if she went in. We were gone for over an hour and when we returned, our room was still dirty. I started to believe it was just intentional at that point. I was forced to pile dirty towels and trash outside our room everyday during our visit. Someone would remove the soiled towels and trash, but they'd never clean the room. It didn't make sense. 2) The first night I called for linen for the pull out bed and no one came. I called a second time over 2 hours later and finally someone dropped them off after 1am. 3) The iceû machines weren't working. My husband had to go to the bar for ice. He went to multiple floors looking for a working ice maker. 4)Upon check in, the front desk clerk didn't provide any details regarding how to get to the room. The hotel has a unique design. We got to our floor only to find out, our room was located somewhere else. My husband said the man had airpods in his ear and kept asking him to repeat himself. Why are airpods acceptable while working the front desk? 5) The AC in our room was terribly loud every night, but without the air on we were sweating and the room was uncomfortable. 5) The blackout curtains in our room didn't fully close no matter how hard we tried to pull them shut. 6) I went to the front desk to buy water and the man ignored me while he was texting on his phone. I went to the on-site restaurant, Crema Gourmet and got the pancakes. My bag was stapled shut. When I got back to the room, I wasn't given syrup. The visit was just more exhausting than anything. The service was poor. The entire experience...
