Long Version
We arrived at Fort Lauderdale Airport and called the hotel for our shuttle. He arrived within ten minutes of our phone call, which was quick in my opinion. The ride from the airport to the hotel was quick also. Once we arrived at the hotel(about a ten minute ride) we were greeted by very friendly lady at the front desk.(Honestly, she was the only friendly person that worked there.)
But...This is where things started to fall short for me.
The first thing I noticed is that the hotel didn't look as "fancy" as it did on their website - but it still looked to be an above average property to me. The hotel holds a $100.00 incidental hold on a credit card, which I suppose is to be expected these days. They also charge $5.00 per day for parking if you are traveling with a vehicle.
After check in, we continued to the elevator corridor. We were suprised by a line of roughly 7-10 people all waiting for a ride up to their floors. The reason for this was; only one elevator was working for all six floors of the hotel. Lets just say, it took us awhile to get to our room on the sixth floor(about 20 mins). We got to our room and opened the door, the room was OK - Just ok.. The faucet in the bathtub was loose, and the water seemed almost yellow out of the tap. The bathtub floor was very slippery. The rooms are able to be connected to each other via a doorway, and unfortunately we had very loud and inconsiderate individuals staying in the room next to us. There was even a night a female in the group was pounding on the door at midnight yelling "DARNELL" ! This went on for a good half hour. Pounding so hard it shook the walls in our room. Eventually someone working the night shift came and resolved the yelling in the hallway, but it persisted for a good hour after the - im assuming - intoxicated women got in the room. The walls in these rooms are thin - We could hear about everything that was happening in both of our neighbors rooms - EVERYTHING. The beds are comfortable but the pillows are not good and one of our beds seem to have a blood stain on the sheets. Housekeeping is very rude and seem to be rather lazy to be honest. I called down to the desk to get blankets for the pull out couch and was not talk to very nicely. "SHE WAS BUSY - SO IT WOULD BE A LITTLE BIT". We faced the highway, so there was that noise as well. One perk though - we got a commanding view of the Hard Rock Hotel and its guitar shaped building. The pool is average, nothing fancy. But both times we went to use the pool, the hallway leading to the door was full of housekeeping carts, boxes of toilet paper, and hotel laundry. Also there was no microwave in the rooms, apparently because of covid.
There is a very nice shopping and eating area not even a city block away from the hotel entrance. Many bars, restaurants, and shops. There was also Häagen-Dazs ice cream building right near the splash pad. It was a very nice area.
On our day of departure, we booked a shuttle to the airport at 10am, and had to wait for almost an hour(11am) for it to arrive.
I really was hoping for a bit "fancier" stay. I don't think the value is there for the price you pay at this hotel. I would recommend paying a bit more and staying closer to the beach if you can afford to do so. Especially if you didn't drive your own vehicle. We spend well over $100 on UBER rides to and from the beach. The hotel did not offer rides...
Read moreOur experience at Hyatt Place Ft. Lauderdale Airport-South & Cruise Port was frustrating from start to finish due to multiple reservation issues, poor communication, and unprofessional service.
Reservation Issues Prior to our arrival, I encountered several issues with my reservation. Despite having written confirmation for one king room and one queen room, I called the front desk to confirm, only to be told that three rooms were listed under my name—something I had not booked. I clarified that I only needed one king room and one two-queen room, and I agreed to cancel the extra two-queen room. However, instead of canceling the duplicate, the front desk mistakenly canceled both queen rooms, leaving us without the accommodations we had originally booked.
I followed up with the central reservations team, who assured me that the hotel would honor my original booking without additional charges, but I had to request written confirmation to ensure the issue was truly resolved. The front desk supervisor Desi did email me confirming the rooms.
At the encouragement of central reservations, I called the front desk on Tuesday and was told my reservations were not found. I immediately emailed the front desk supervisor to address the issue. Hoping and desperate for clarification, I followed up again on Thursday, expecting a response from at least one of the three people copied on the emails, but I received no reply.
Room Disruptions Once checked in, we faced yet another issue. Shortly after settling into our room, the smoke detector started beeping periodically. We called the front desk, and maintenance was sent up to replace the batteries. Unfortunately, at around 9:15 PM, the smoke detector went off completely. My husband called the front desk and insisted that we move rooms. We were well-settled and had an early morning ahead, making this situation even more inconvenient.
After waiting with the beeping detector for 20 minutes, my husband went down to the front desk to follow up. Instead of an apology or a sense of urgency, we were met with indifference and treated as though we were an inconvenience. Eventually, we were handed keys to a new room, but the overall experience left us feeling frustrated and unwelcome.
Lack of Accountability at Checkout At checkout, I brought up all of these concerns and actually spoke with the same person I had been emailing prior to arrival. Rather than taking responsibility, she made excuses, saying she was off work Tuesday and Wednesday. When I asked why she hadn't replied on Thursday, she said she receives "like 2,000 emails a day." I then asked why neither of the two other managers copied on all emails—one of whom I believe to be the hotel's general manager—did not follow up either. She had no response.
As compensation, I was first offered 5,000 Hyatt points, which I declined. Then, I was offered a 10% discount on my stay. In retrospect, given the number of issues we faced, the disruption to our night, and the overall poor service, a higher discount would have been more appropriate. The entire situation felt like we were being ghosted until I forced the conversation at checkout.
Final Thoughts Between the disorganized reservation system, the dismissive and unprofessional customer service, and the multiple inconveniences during our stay, I would not recommend this hotel. A hotel should provide a smooth and stress-free experience for guests—not create additional problems and avoid...
Read moreI generally don't write too many reviews of hotels and don't even know why I'm doing this now, but I don't feel like working this afternoon and...here we are. Wife and I just went down to Ft. Lauderdale as we got a free cruise offer. My wife did all the legwork when it came to picking a place and the Hyatt House in Dania Beach won. I have no idea as to the layout of Ft. Lauderdale, but we were relatively close to the airport and cruise terminal (about 10 minutes to each) so this was/is a popular spot for cruisers.
We chose the Hyatt Place over the Hyatt House that's literally right across the street. Honestly, if I had to do it again we'd have gone with the Hyatt House and I'll detail why a bit later.
The location: There's a large outdoor shopping center with plenty of bars, restaurants and shopping right there. I wondered around and found a Starbucks in the morning and we ate in the shopping center both nights (Coopers Hawk and some other restaurant that I've already forgotten the name of). There's also a big movie theater that was pretty packed on the weekend. It's also conveniently located by some major roads which was one of my issues. We had a corner room that faced the interstate and evidently people like to go really fast around 3AM. Our white noise apps on our phones were only able to drown out about 60% of the noise. So while it didn't equate to a totally sleepless night, it wasn't the best night sleep we've had. Thankfully the hotel let us switch rooms the next day to a room that faced away from the interstate, so you might want to consider that if you're staying here.
The room: Nothing wrong with the room at all. Given that we stayed in two of them (one the first night and the other the next) space was ample, the room had a nice, modern feel to it with a refrigerator, big HDTV and comfortable couch. While it's not your traditional "Hyatt" I had no complaints.
I will say that Ft. Lauderdale isn't exactly a "walking town" so you'll need a rental car or Uber if you intend to take in some of the sights. Given that we were there for two days, we used Uber though if you're just checking in for a night prior to a cruise, the shopping center that this is located in should more than suffice.
As to my above point in choosing the Hyatt House, it's just a little more "off the beaten path" even if it is right across the street. If you want to know the difference, the Hyatt House is more geared for long term stay (i.e. it has a kitchen) whereas the Hyatt Place is more your standard room. The only reason I'd choose House over Place is, as mentioned, the noise factor.
The area is nice, new and I didn't feel unsafe at all. I'm sure you could do better and there was a Hilton Garden Inn nearby as well, but if you factor out our first night - it...
