D's Barbershop - the Flats — Local services in Dayton

Worst experience we’ve ever had anywhere PERIOD. Called in advance to see if Tim was available. He’s the one who answers and was very friendly over the phone. We get there and suddenly, there’s an issue after my bf (the client) is sat! Another barber, J, decided he wanted to steal my bf from Tim (the one we called ahead for specifically by name). Tim becomes furious! He and J have a shouting match IN THE LOBBY??? I’m sitting there feeling like it’s my fault for even making the damn appointment! Meanwhile, my boyfriend is obviously uncomfortable! Tim RIPS my boyfriend from his station’s chair, and pushes him into J’s chair! Why did we walk in to get a haircut to be physically assaulted??? Our bad I guess! We are both just frozen in shock. My boyfriend wanted a mid-skin fade and beard trim. Now, none of the lines are straight. One part of his beard is uneven from the other (J argued with him that it wasn’t???), and his fade is NOT well done. J then does a hot towel and massage treatment, that was not asked for and was charged for on top of everything. $45 to be pushed around and given a bad haircut. NO TIP. Will not go back. This was my first time at D’s Barbershop, and I was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere was incredibly relaxed, and I felt immediately welcome as soon as I entered. Ali greeted me at the door and greeted me with professionalism. He hung up my jacket and seated me promptly.

I spent about three to five minutes showing Ali the picture of the cut I wanted. It wasn’t just a simple clean-up job; he took the time to understand my preferences. He got to work immediately and saved me from missing my last cut appointment. I had missed it by a few minutes and needed it done that very day!

I arrived at 6:12 p.m., but the shop closes at 6 p.m. Ali effortlessly cleaned up the mess, did the fade, lined me up, and applied a hot towel on top to clean the line with the razor. He even hit my shoulders with the massage gun to relax my muscles.

I left the shop at 6:03 p.m. feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. I didn’t feel rushed at all, and I highly recommend both Ali’s service and this barbershop....

When I came in I asked Vernon if walk in’s were accepted he said yes. I decided to pass up on two barbers that became open because I wanted an older black male to cut my hair. After he cut two heads he became available but quickly stayed “I can’t do it I have a 1p appt”, it was 12:30p. Another barber told him he had time but as soon as I sat down he started “he’s going to make me stand on my bad knee all day” which didn’t feel welcoming or that he wanted to even cut my hair. It felt rushed and I don’t feel like my hair cut was as clean as the two gentleman before me.
