We arrived very early in the morning set up close to the water. Only 4 other families were there, it was very nice (around 8am). By 10 all of this very small beach that is squeezed in between hotels that blocked off space was getting full. By noon we were ready to leave! The people were so rude and it did not matter if they got there early or not - they would walk through and over your things, they moved in front of us although we set up right up front, they put their tents and umbrellas up blocking all view of the water and alcohol consumption and rude behavior was on point! Water was over crowded and the jet ski rentals did not care about your safety. We started packing up at one and when we went to walk to the bathrooms there was no where to walk because people were packed in like sardines! Really sad because the hotel next to this had three times the amount of space and from 8am to 1pm there were a total of 4 families on their side of the ropes! We learned that if you are not staying at a hotel in Destin then go somewhere else for beach access like Pensacola! Plenty of open...
Read moreThis is one of the best public beach access points in this section of Destin. The public beach is very small, but there is PLENTY of parking behind the Candymaker. From this access point you can walk the crowded beaches to the west. There is a wonderful local bar west, The Back Porch, which has a good children's menu for the kids. At the park itself there is a strip of land donated to the public that has some green grass and a doggy pottie station. The public restrooms are clean and there are freshwater outdoor showers to get the sand off your feet. Finally, and best of all, to the east is the wonderful Henderson Beach State Park! There you can escape the crowds. In fact, if you walk far enough, you can fish and yesterday the Pompano were jumping right...
Read moreThe beach was super pretty and not very crowded. However, we were leaving at about 5 and I needed to use the restroom. I go to the public restrooms and to my surprise cannot get out. Needed to call 911 due to being a pregnant lady locked in the bathroom with it being dark. Before the authorities arrived, a park ranger came by and explained to my friend waiting outside who also could not open the door that it auto locks from the outside at 5 and when inside the handle needs to be lifted up. There were zero signs for either one of those. We had a great time at the beach which is why I gave the additional star, however there needs to be a sign posted explaining the...
