I had a 3 meat combo SL ribs, brisket. Sausage beans slaw
1 the sausage was tasteless, it was spicy and you could taste meat, but it didn't have any flavorings in it whatsoever. I was expecting more from a "German style: sausage. Brisket was okay the smoke was very light but it was cooked well, saying that the barbecue sauce they put on it was horrible nasty thick sweet gloopy.
3, St Louis ribs were done well I think they needed more salt and smoke flavoring, but the whole thing was killed with that barbecue sauce. I literally only ate 1.
You shouldn't use the SAME barbecue sauce on everything!!
The beans were highlight, I thought they were very good. Coleslaw was also well done it was on the unsweet side which I did appreciate, could have used more celery seed and other flavorings.
The day I went the service was slow, they said the computers went down. While I understand that, taking over 35 minutes to get a three-meat barbecue combo out to me is not acceptable in any BBQ place.
The bbq and sides should be ready and out in less that 5 min.
I don't want to say the service was poor I'll give them benefit on the computer being down, but I put my credit card down and it did not get taken for 17 minutes. I even told the lady that I was in a hurry and to bring my check out quickly.
Once she took it it actually got lost between the manager server and front of the house for nearly 15 minutes. I literally don't know how that happens.
While they say we're having problems with the computer, my credit cards shouldn't be missing for 15 minutes.
Overall the barbecue sauce was absolutely horrible as you can tell on my reviews. It's sad they just put it on everything. I cannot believe you serve that to the people of Salt Lake and call it good.
I would say if you eat here get all the sauces on the side, and bring your own barbecue sauce.
It could be soo much better. You can see in the picture I scraped that nasty barbecue sauce off...
Read moreJust ate there and the food was good and the server was very polite. I ordered a lunch special which said there was a $3 add on if you choose ribs as I of the meats. I asked for a two meat special 1 being ribs. She asked which kind of rib and I picked baby back. When the bill came it looked too high, so I checked the menu and said I was over charged for the lunch special. She sai the ribs I picked had an $8 up charge, not $3. I asked her where on the menu it said that and she looked and said it didn’t. I got 3 ribs total… and it was an extra $8 over just picking a regular meat??? She came back with a changed bill. Then the manager came over. I thought he was going to apologize for the confusion. Not the case. He told me he didn’t have to fix anything, I said yes he did. He said he could make me oay the full amount. I told him to show me the $8 up charge on the menu, which of course, he couldn’t. He became belligerent and aggressive. Soon the entire restaurant was listening to us. As he became more aggressive and his body language became threatening. He (Rocky) was dressed in a T shirt (not very managerial) and and his tatted arms flexed each time I confronted him and would not back down — explaining to him that I would take it further.
This is what I never heard — I’m sorry for the confusion…. Hope you liked the meal… anything a manager with a brain in his head would have said. He could have not come to the table at all. The bill had already been fixed. I guess he wanted me to grovel for it, and thank him for his overwhelming generosity. It was an ugly situation that didn’t have to be at all. One of the other customers came over to console me for having had to endure it. I don’t think he made a good impression on anyone in the restaurant. This is the second time I’ve had bad service there, but the food is good and the service...
Read moreIf you are dining out at a quality sit down restaurant you expect to pay more for the food quality and for the attentive service from your staff member. My visit to day to Good Wood was a major disappointment as the Smoked Chicken platter, that was recommended to me, was not able to be served to me. I drove 30 minutes, across town, to ty this dish out. I was promptly seated and the atmosphere and décor of the restaurant was quite nice. I order a Iced Tea and wanted to look over the menu to see what appetizers the restaurant served. When the server returned with my drink I ordered their Spicy Wings and the Smoked Chicken platter for dinner. I was then informed that they were no longer serving this dish. I explained that I had traveled for this dish and would prefer to leave, which did not seem to upsetting to the serve, as long as I paid for the drink that they had just served. I also mentioned this to the hostess, when leaving, and received a unfriendly thank you for my troubles. Quality service demands that you let diners know, when sitting them, that your kitchen is no longer serving items that are on the menu. Failing to provide this simple courtesy and communication causes diners to be upset when they cannot order the food the wish to eat. Further, to then risk the reputation of your restaurant over a $4.00 charge, for iced tea, that costs you less that $.15 to make, is just adding insult to an already poor situation. Finally, to not care, when informed of the situation, by bringing the floor manager into the problem, just seals the deal that customer service, at Good Wood Restaurant, is not of a very high standard. I cannot review their food as they could not serve any to me; however, based on the service I cannot recommend this eating...
