I bought a Michael Kors women's jacket online, however, the color did not turn out as what the picture was showing online, so I brought it into Macy's Southdale to return. I parked by the men's department so I just brought it to one of the less busy counters (one where they sell men's suit and ties) to return. When I got there, there was only one associate helping another woman with a return, and there was this middle age male associate, Daryl, that appears to be shopping while he is working his shift (looking at different ties), he saw the line at the register but did not jump onto the register to help out the other associate until she asked. When he got to the register, I told him I needed to return this women's jacket. His first question "are you in a rush?", and I said "yes", then he went on to say "well next time leave enough time so you can return it to the correct department, women's jacket is downstairs", shocked at his snarky comment to a customer, I just said "ok". After he was done doing the return his last comment to me was "leave enough time next time because I like things being in the right dept". I'm very upset about this experience because it is NOT my job to go to the correct dept to return an item, from what I understand (when I also used to work in retail) that is it a sale associate's job to assist the customer and not make it a hassle for them regardless if they are buying or returning, and it is their job to bring the items back to the correct dept; customers can buy and return things at any counters they wish that is convenient for them (of course unless it's cosmetics and fragrances where those associates get a commission). His attitude towards me was unacceptable because, from his tone, it was very disrespectful and "snappy". I usually shop at Macy's Ridgedale but since I was in the Edina area today, just thought I'd go to this one instead, but with such unpleasant experience I most likely will never return to this location. Unfortunately, I was unable to speak to a manager in the store today since I was in a rush, but I will be calling tomorrow to make sure my concern about their lack of customer...
Read moreI can see why retail is dying when I go shopping. Since the flu I shop almost exclusively online. I don't have to deal with grouchy workers, or search for them like at this establishment. I have learned to have patience and wait for the mail. Here's an example why Macy's is dying. I found a Micheal kors jacket that I wanted to purchase. It was 175.00 I think. They had 3 on the rack and one on a mannequin. Unfortunately the one on the mannequin was my size. I had to find a manager to take it off for me to try it on, and he was not happy about it. He wouldn't look at me but I could see his scowl. I apologized and told him it was the only one in my size. He mumbled something. He handed me the jacket and off he went. To his credit, it was difficult to take the jacket off the mannequin. Anyway I tried it on and decided against it. Honestly even if it looked fantastic, I would not have bought it from them. It's kind of kharma for these greedy corporate giants that they won't pay decent wages so they get more profit but it's turned on them, because if they would have invested more in training and wages, they would still be making money. Now they are just about belly up. Now they will end up with nothing. The crabby manager will be out of work, the greedy corporate big shots will be out of work Sooner, I don't get my jacket. I haven't been back nor will I step into...
Read moreI do like this Macy's, but I like the Saint Louis Park location better for women's clothes. They have a great product selection - both my boyfriend and I like to shop at Macy's. I would highly recommend checking out the clearance sections, because you can find some great suites, shirts, etc. for good prices. The thing that I do not like about this Macy's is the cleanliness of their facilities. Their changing rooms are really dirty and seem to be falling apart. Half the doors don't lock. There isn't one that's necessarily better than another, as it seems to be a store wide issue. The restrooms by the elevators always have toilet paper and water all over the floor.
There also seems to be a staff training issue at this location. It doesn't seem like the employees are cross-trained, so the different brands and locations within the store have no idea about the other or even Macy's overall. For example, we were trying to find out some information about my boyfriend's Macy's card and kept getting different answers. Then, of all the holiday shopping we were doing at Macy's throughout the weeks, only one staff member told us about the Giving/Savers program they are doing through the holidays where you pay $25 to donate to a charity but you get that money back plus additional if you spend more after the holidays. We were happy to sign up once...
