In short: Go to Walmart where the prices are better and the service is just as bad, or go to Kroger where the prices are just as high and the service is better.
I have begrudgingly been going to this Meijer store for nearly ten years. I will never go again. They do not have any regard for their customers. My experience on 11/25/2015, the day before Thanksgiving, was the last straw. The store has always been mediocre but they just spent millions to expand and update the store. I figured they had turned over a new leaf and might actually care about customer service. Boy was I wrong! The day before Thanksgiving this huge store had 2 checkout lanes open. That is not a typo. The morning before Thanksgiving the place was packed and they had only 2 service checkout lanes open! I was in a rush and had and overflowing cart with $300 of groceries (mostly fruits and vegetables that had to be manually entered) and I had to go to the SELF check out lane. It took me 45 minutes to check my groceries out with a snotty lady correcting my entries the whole time ( "no those are not regular bananas, they are organic"). Thank goodness I had my 9 year old helping me bag the groceries or it would have taken even longer. I will happily drive the extra 10 minutes to Krogers from now on where they have triple the number of lanes open AND have people to help bag. I will take much less time shopping and with much less aggravation. Meijer is more convenient but does not deserve my quite regular and ample business until they start to have some regard for...

That being said, my last visit I took my handicapped mother with me who uses a wheel chair most of the timw away from home and a walker at home. My mother was paying for her groceries and trying to stand up to sign for her credit card purchase and the cashier continued handing her items if she was in a hurry or something until my mother fell because she could not hold on to everything and hold herself upright. I came out of the bathroom in time to see my mother a stuck between the counter and wheel chair and struggling to pull herself up, unsuccessfully! I ran to her helped her back into her chair and picked all the things off the floor she dropped. Meanwhile the cashier stands there talking to a friend or someone she knew and offered no assistance at all, instead asked my mom if she could move because others are waiting! I thought that was as rude as anyone could be and If Meijer continues to employee people like this, it will negatively affect thier annual sales! I've been there 4 or 5 since that has happened and have not seen that cashier since and have had nothing but decent friendly staff offering help when needed and all the cashier's since had been exceptionly friendly and helpful.... so it was just probably 1 out of 100 visits have a bad one... rest of the time i would say my preferred...
Read moreOn May 23rd I ordered a cake for my daughter’s high school graduation party in June. I wanted it designed with the University of Cincinnati logo since she’ll be going there in the fall. UC’s website has a page full of university designed logos where it explicitly states that the logos are there for students/families to download and use for their “swag”, or decorations for things like graduation parties. Which this was for. Meijer has a policy stating they can’t use copyrighted images. But the UC website clearly states that the logos they made available for download are there for students and their families to use. I attached the link to this webpage with my cake order. The automatically generated email reply to my order with Meijer said I’d receive an email confirming my order was received and accepted. Here we are three weeks later and three days away from the party, and no such email ever arrived. Instead I had to call Meijer myself only to find out that they’re not making the cake due to the copyright policy. I can live with that. But my problem is the lack of communication and promised follow up from Meijer. On top of that the manager left a note on my order claiming she’d attempted to call me several times. I don’t have a single voice message from them, nor do I have any missed calls from some unknown Dayton phone number. And now I’m left to scramble and find somebody else to make my daughter’s cake at the last minute. Thanks a lot...
