Hemlock Hardware — Local services in Fairfield

When I first found them, I thought HH was the kind of familiar small, local hardware store that was being pushed out by big box stores. However I think what really sets them apart is that the people there are extremely personable, thoughtful, and “human”, especially compared with the big box stores. While staff at both might be very “knowledgeable”, I felt like the folks at HH were actually listening to me, cared about my problems, and weren’t just focusing on some corporate agenda. They even went above and beyond to deliver some things to me for a project.

What’s maybe more surprising though is that their prices, website, and stock quality were all better than or competitive with nationwide chains. They’re a bit out of the way for me, but I’ll always prefer to shop and work with them...

This place is way overpriced now. I've shopped there for 40 years but they have literally doubled their prices in the last 12 months. They want $30 for three M10 nuts and three M10 Bolts. Its insane. You're much better off avoiding this place and shopping online.

M10x30 flange bolt = $4 and change M10 flange nut = $4 and change

3 each with tax youre taking $30 dollars for $3 worth of hardware. You can write whatever you want here but if any customers come in they'll see for themselves.

$4 for a M10 nut you should feel like a crook.

And I didn't buy anything there. I told you your hardware had outrageously doubled in price (I could even see the fresh price stickers) and walked out. And don't even start on inflation....

Website states they have items in the store ready for pickup/ same day delivery. Went down there just to buy them and they didn't have anything. Someone behind the counter said "yeah sometimes online inventory is just wrong" and that they could order the item for me. Felt very deceptive.

Why advertise something as available today if it's not? Could I have called to make sure they had the product? Yeah sure, but they have this handy ordering website so I thought it would be accurate. Pretty big bummer and not an experience I will repeat again. I went to another hardware that is actually transparent with their store inventory.
