This modest and unassuming little restaurant in downtown Fairfield is turning out some VERY GOOD Mexican cuisine. I went to college in New Mexico and then lived in L.A. for twenty years. In addition I've traveled to many parts of Mexico, so I feel pretty confident in judging the fare offered here. The standard menu is pretty conventional and doesn't disappoint, but you really want to try Tequila Revolucion for the specials. They change constantly, and what makes the specials so good is the group effort behind them. This place is almost like a Food Lab. Everyone working in the kitchen contributes to unique dishes from his or her own region of Mexico with their special family influenced recipes. On this visit I started with the house Margarita served "up", like a martini. It's a generous, perfectly balanced cocktail of good tequila, triple sec, and fresh lime juice, which I sipped on while looking over the specials. I zeroed in immediately on the Chile Rellenos stuffed with pork and three cheeses in a light tomato and chile infused sauce. The batter on the huge chile was just right; not too light like a tempura, but almost like a soft bread encasing the tasty mixture of pork and cheese. The puddle of tomato sauce might have benefited from a little more chili bite, but it was elegant in its silkiness and emulsion. One of the other specials, a starter of Roasted Corn soup also sounded good, but I knew if I ordered it I would be too full to enjoy my entree. So I asked for a taste of it. My waiter happily obliged, and once I tasted it I asked him to please give me an order "to go." I will enjoy that again in full tomorrow. Tequila Revolucion is an excellent restaurant. My only quibbles are these: It's not necessary to have a basket of chips already on the table. They don't appear to be housemade and they should be. I also think if the flour tortillas were freshly made to order--as they are in many Southern California restaurants--it would raise the bar significantly when enjoying otherwise excellent dishes such as TR's awesome Queso Fundido. Am I going back? You betcha. When I need that little trip over the...
Read moreWe arrived 15 minutes before they opened for the evening and initially were turned away, which was fine, and as we were walking back to our car, one of the employees followed us and called us back to say they could let us in to start serving us so I guess a manager Saw what happened and wanted to make good on that. We were the first ones in and had no wait for a menu and drinks. However, I was given a water glass with lipstick prints on it and had to ask for a clean glass. We also had to ask for utensils when our food came, and then we were offered more napkins, which was nice.
The alcoholic drinks were small, but potent and tasty; we had two margaritas each, that were served in short glasses. The food itself was adequate. I had a vegetable fajita that had a ton more broccoli than any other vegetable in the dish and I would’ve liked a little more variety, but it was cooked and prepared well. My friend had a chicken fajita and he seemed to like it. They have only one bathroom, And one patron was taking an inordinately long time and then, when her young child kept banging on the door, she let him in to use it while the rest of us were still waiting. I Walked away, hurriedly paid my bill and needed to get out of there so I could use a bathroom somewhere else. This was not the fault of the restaurant, although they may want to consider having a second bathroom considering the size of the restaurant since it holds a fair amount of people.
With two entrees, one appetizer of guacamole, and two alcoholic drinks each, our bill came to over $117, which I thought was a bit high. I realize these days costs these days are high everywhere, But with everything as it happened, I don’t feel that it’s worth...
Read moreMy wife and I just finished eating here for our anniversary, and I want to leave a review as fresh as the food was. If you've found yourself in the review section of Tequila Revolucion, then you may still be contemplating whether or not you want to go. Listen to the seasoned Nike marketers and, Just Do It. You will not be disappointed. I had the, Carne Asada Yucateca, and it was the bomb.com. The spice is real, but the flavors are worth it. Shout out to the pickled onions too. My wife only gets Cheese Enchilladas at Mexican restaurants, to have a consistent gauge on how to base her dining out experience. According to her, THESE, are the best in Fairfield County and maybe the best outside of SoCal and TX. We also had the guacamole which was fantastic, and the Elote's which were incredibly delicious. Looking around at what other folks were ordering it all looked and smelled fantastic though, so choose your own dining adventure, you won't be dissapointed. Get the margarita, if you can, as you won't be disapointed. My wife doesn't drink, so it was nice to see that they had quality non-alcoholic selections. Shout out to Athletic Brewing for their delicious non-alcohilc beers. The vibe is great here and the waitstaff is super friendly and attentive. When we walked in the staff encouraged us to sit anywhere that was open, making it a very homely and casual experience which we loved. The place did start to pick up and get packed, so definitely know ahead of time that at peak dining times you may have to wait. It is super family friendly, and I look forward to bringing our daughter here to enjoy the food as well! Great job creating an awesome dining experience, can't wait...
