I just left your location in Farmington Hills, mi on Orchard lake road and was accused of trying to return a used wrist watch. I purchased the watch 2 days ago at your location in Novi, mi and decided to return it because I realized I already own one very similar to it. The time was approximately 6 PM eastern standard time on Saturday May 4th, 2019. The manager was a young woman with brown hair and glasses probably in her early 30's, unfortunately I didn't get her name. The watch was sold to me with all the tags attached to it except the price scan label was laying loose in the box. I didn't really care because I have never returned a watch. The manager informed me that the watch had scratches on it on the inside and since the label wasn't attached that it must be used. The scratches that she claimed were on watch was supposed be somewhere on the inside of the band, really? No one could show me where these "obvious" scratches were. She then turned a sign towards me with their return on it in my direction and informed me that I would have to take it back to the store I purchased it from. TJMaxx is corporation and not independently owned stores if I'm not mistaken, so why do u have to drive out to another store?? She said this with a smile! You insult me and then you smile???!!! I understand every business has policies, but maybe I shouldn't have been sold the watch with the label unattached to begin with. What really ticked me off, besides having to drive back out to Novi, was her condescending smile. I work in retail and wouldn't dare try to do something underhanded like do a return scam, plus being a manager of an establishment she should be more understanding of a customer's plight because I'm pretty sure I'm not the only customer of TJ Maxx that purchased something with the label in box and not attached! I took it out to the Novi location and got a complete refund plus an apology for all my trouble. The manger at the Novi location understood that sometimes the little stickers come of the plastic ties that hold it. By the way, the plastic tie was still on the watch and the manufacturer's tags and we both couldn't find those...
Read moreShopping here is stressful. Management is oblivious. The store is entirely unkempt. Just terrible. The line is always unnecessarily long with really slow service. Expect to wait. Rude, uncivilized, obnoxious if not belligerent, customers make shopping here even more unpleasant. Management did not intervene to correct bad behavior at the register. My family was harassed, right at the (crowded) register by three unruly individuals; perhaps one of them was drunk. For all kinds of reasons, I should've left our items on the counter and walked out; not only to escape the harassment and de-escalate, but also, and perhaps more importantly, due to management's neglect to correct the situation. All she did was walk over to ask, "is there a problem?" Yes. There's a problem. She did not actually address the problem; she probably didn't know how or have the courage to if she did. The customers were shouting a bit and calling people names. They seemed to be having a heck of a time with their transaction. They were creating drama where things were otherwise calm. Everybody was trying to mind their own business except this group of three. They made it uncomfortable for several other customers as well. I was able to (had to!) address "the problem" myself, but not without my blood pressure going through the roof due to an adrenaline dump from having to restrain myself. We will not be back to this location and wouldn't be surprised whatsoever if this particular location closes within the next few years. We didn't observe any staff wearing name-tags. That's usually a clue; a red flag. Nobody wants to risk getting noticed by name for their bad behavior; there's no accountability here and it shows!! Customer relations and a healthy profit margin will not be sustainable given the current state of affairs here. Be warned. This...
Read moreThey literally lied to me about a policy. I tried to return an item without a receipt. All tags were intact and I had my ID. The person at the cashier and a lady I think was the manager (shorter lady with a bob) were both condescending and unhelpful. The manager said that the item wasn't in their system even though I bought it from THAT store just the week before! When I explained that, she just said that's why I should've kept my receipt. Then, she straight up lied and told me that they can only return without the receipt for items $19.99 or less. I asked them if that was in the policy, and she said yes. I literally called TJMaxx customer service right after and they said they had never heard of a policy like that before. They basically don't want to accept returns without receipts, so they make stuff up. This is the 2nd time something like this has happened here. Every other TJMaxx...
