I occasionally stop into this Ulta because its my neighborhood location. However, I had a disturbing experience with a third party vendor who was present today 9/18/25 inside of this Ulta Beauty location installing shelves between the skincare and perfume area.
I am recovering from a surgery and thought an early mornig stroll through Ulta would be just what the doctor ordered but NOPE. Unfortunately, I made the grave mistake of asking a woman from said third party shelf installation a question “hi, do you guys carry indie lee in this store”. Third party vendor replied to me in a deplorable manner stating she doesnt work their and vehemently taps her shirt showing the company “apollo”. She also nastily commented that I need to look for someone with an earpiece. Just rude. Apollo= said third party! Okay, fine completely my mistake but the tone really didnt sit right with me. Third party vendor lady begins talking loudly, completely unprofessional, that someone needs to come help a lady. I was in fact…said lady.
An actual ulta beauty employee (older brunette woman) came up to me to assist but just furthered the terrible experience in the store. As I am telling her what took place she isnt really paying attention, mentioning that its third party and while technically they should be a reflection of ulta well…and continued to ask what I was looking for. Third party vendor still bellowing unprofessional chatter during our exchange and making me even more uncomfortable. I for some silly reason decide to tell the ulta associate that I was asking if they carried “indie lee”. The associate told me that she never heard of that. I showed her the name and item on my phone on the ulta website and said its ok and walked away. I try to continue a peaceful stroll through the store looking for skin care and lippy’s. Only to be followed by the same associate trying to assist after I had already said “im okay”. I was shaken up after being accosted by the vendor and once the employee stated she had no clue what “Indie Lee” was I was completely uninterested. 15 minutes later the sales associate tracks me down and tells me that the item I was interested isnt sold in stores in the metro detroit area and that the website states “online only” for the 21 days of beauty sale. Like listen lady, beat it. I found that information out immediately after showing you that the brand exisits ON THE ULTA BEAUTY WEBSITE. I thought these sales associates were knowledgeable or at least could assist and if someone has been accosted, and then she tells me she doesnt even know the brand, would just leave me in peace.
This was a completely ghastly underwhelming experience. I was going to make a purchase but after a slight thought about the poor treatment I put the item down and left empty handed. There were no apologies given, terrible beauty answers and no protection of customers. Needless to say, I drove to Sephora and had the peaceful shopping stroll I had hoped for! I wont be...
Read moreI recently visited this store with my daughter and sister, and unfortunately, our experience was not what we expected. The staff member who did my daughter’s blow-dry was friendly, but the outcome was not satisfactory. We chose not to complain at the time, but our experience during checkout was disappointing. The cashier was consistently rude and unprofessional, rolling her eyes every time we spoke to her. Her behavior felt disrespectful and made us uncomfortable. My daughter paid for her blow dry and she asked her for a tip, when my daughter paid looked at me asking me how much should she pay the cashier answered I am a 20% percent girl I told my daughter 20% is fine sense it was not good at all. Then it was my turn to pay for what I bought she did not stop making sigh noises and then said bye with a bad tone, but my sister said wait it is my turn I want to pay for the things I bought, the total seemed high , when my sister inquired about the high price of her items, the cashier immediately called the manager, saying, “Things are getting bad.” When the manager arrived, the cashier told her, “I’m not talking to you, I’m talking to the manager,” which was incredibly rude and uncalled for.
To make matters worse, when we sought help from the manager, we were met with further disrespect. She interrupted me more than once saying I was really loud when I was not. She never apologized at the beginning and said what you want me to do. I felt she was so disrespectful and racist. My daughter told her more than once my mom was respectful and did not yell. The manager’s attitude was dismissive, and she even told us, “You are more than welcome not to come back to Ulta.” I responded that she does not own Ulta and that I can shop there whenever I choose. This entire experience was very upsetting and left us feeling disrespected.
I hope that management takes this feedback seriously to ensure a respectful and professional environment for all customers. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
