Let me start by saying I have very rarely had a bad experience here. Even if you aren't that into reading there is plenty of entertainment to be had. I spend at least an hour of my weekend here hanging out by the sale counter just so I can overhear some Karen scoff at the pennies on the dollar they get offered for their priceless collection of fine used torn magazines, obsolete casset tapes and awful collections of god awful romance novels that nobody wants. The surprise on their face that their collections of garbage don't hold the monetary value they think it should, never fails to amuse me. My favorite part of the store has to be the board game and RPG section which has grown considerably over the years. Defunct ideas dating back to the 60's can be found for reasonable prices and I'm never disappointed. The prices are far from half, ever, But far less than buying at the ultra-evil conglomerate Barnes and Not-so-nobel. While I'm admittedly a nerd and have a passion for this store, it's rarely books that I buy here. HPB has rolled with the punches and shows a great offering of things to buy even though print is dead. Hopefully they will continue to find a way to thrive well after the republican party 🥳 🎉 has succeeded in their tradition of banning and burning books...
Read moreThis is a pretty good Half-Price Bookstore. They are all great in my opinion. This particular has a great collection of books, games, journals, knick knacks, lots of novelty type stuff and a ton of other stuff. I was looking for a new tarot deck and they had a few, but most of them are kept locked up in a glass case and are old or vintage and much more expensive. The ones not locked up are very reasonably priced but they are always the same decks and those same decks are usually at all the HPB locations. So after awhile, they are nothing special especially since I already own them all. Since it's obvious that they order some items in bulk to add to their stock, it would be great if they would stock more tarot card decks. Other than that, they have a great selection of metaphysical books along with all the other books of every genre and topic. One other thing that would probably make a lot of people very happy, including myself, is if they would bring one or two Half Price book stores to Abilene, Texas since we don't have any of them here. All we have in Abilene are a Books-A-Million bookstore which is crazy expensive, and one used bookstore where nothing is in order at all and the people that work there have no idea where...
Read moreI have not been in a bookstore for years. Well, I have been learning a new skill and was struggling on certain aspects and thought it might be good to go the old fashioned paper route. This store is neat as a pin. The air is fresh and and the energy is nice. They had tons of well organized and easy to locate categories so I went right to mine in the art section. There were several books on exactly what I was looking for. The prices were very fair. I glanced at the craft book section and there was a dizzying array of books on so many topics, very niche even. It was so welcoming and the tables here and there invite you to sit down and peruse at your leisure. Another favorite part of the store for me was an entire aisle plus end caps of sketchbooks and journals. From plain covered to characters to modern art covers, all good quality. The associate who helped me at checkout was wonderful, helpful, and conversational. They even offered me extra information in my quest for knowledge. I will be going back. The internet is great but there is still space for the books you can touch and people you can interact with. And this is a great place to do both. Highly...
