I went to home goods on a Saturday night as a colleague suggested the Nespresso machine and told me they had them for cheaper than Target and I’ve been saying I wanted to start making coffee at home to save money. I grabbed one just before they closed. When I got home and unboxed it a few hours later to my surprise, there was a used keurig in the box. I called the following morning explaining the situation thinking to myself surely no one is going to believe me and I spoke to a girl over the phone that giggled about it and told me to bring it back in. I returned to the store in less than 24 hours after the purchase and I’ve never been more humiliated in my life. I explained the story because I didn’t want them to put it back on the floor (initially no one even attempted to open the box) and I wanted permission to open another one to confirm the contents before rebuying/exchanging. After explaining the story, another cashier that didn’t even acknowledge me and had a very rude and nasty demeanor, nearly ripped the box open (literally ripped the box) and then took the box register to register now getting the attention of onlookers. She called a manager up who walked right past me as well and towards her five or so registers down (again perpetuating suspicion of me) whispered to him for about a minute before he returned back to me and told me he couldn’t help me. I wasn’t going to be out of $160 so I asked him who could help me, that’s when he offered me a name of someone who is above him and I also requested the corporate office phone number. I was literally trembling trying to keep my composure as I am a well known professional in this city and as much as I wanted to demand and even cry due to humiliation I had to remain calm. I literally felt like scum. They made me feel like some sort of scammer. The guy started educating me (unwarranted) on the difference between Breville and Keurig like I wasn’t aware. I suggested that they look at return logs and or cameras because someone got away with giving them back an old keurig and now I’m being made to pay for it. I wonder if I wasn’t a woman of color if there would’ve been a different outcome. I literally felt like a criminal. Sadly this is the only store in this city, but I’ll never shop here again after this situation...
Read moreThis is the absolute worst TJ Maxx I have ever been to, and it's a shame because it's one of my favorite stores, but I will no longer be shopping at any TJ Maxx just because of this location. A few months ago, I needed a certain kind of shirt for my outfit for a job interview. I was so excited to find the perfect one at TJ Maxx, but I noticed it had a stain on it. From my previous experience at other locations, I thought it would be no problem because they generally have great customer service. All I was looking for was maybe 10% off to account for the time I would be spending trying to get the stain out. The manager and cashier were very rude about it and said there was basically nothing they could do, which I know is not true because I work in retail myself and know that making the customer happy is the #1 goal. If you have no customers, you have no business. Apparently TJ Maxx doesn't understand that. So I became skeptical of the store but decided to give it another try today, as I was looking for a Michael Kors wallet for my mom for Mothers Day to match the purse I got her. Again, super excited that I found the exact wallet I needed, but I realized there were 2 of them and one was $70 and the other was $80. I bring them both up to the counter and ask why the price is different. The cashier acknowledges that they are exactly the same wallet, and even looks them up in the computer and tells me that one of them was marked wrong. So he called his supervisor over and she says that the prices are different because they came from two different vendors. Firstly, how could she know that without even looking them up, and secondly, how is that my problem? You can't charge two different prices for the exact same thing, that's called price discrimination. The only reason I wanted the one that was marked as $80 was because the zipper still had tissue paper wrapped around it so I thought that one would be a nicer gift for my mom. They refused to honor the $70 price and I let them know that I will never be shopping there again. I hope 10% off a stained shirt and $10 off a mismarked wallet were worth losing my lifetime customer value, as well as the lifetime customer value of all my friends that will no longer be shopping...
